BACnet Secure Connect (BACnet/SC) Released
The ASHRAE BACnet Committee has released
the BACnet Secure Connect (BACnet/SC) for
publication. This paves the way for the IT-secure,
manufacturer-independent networking of building
technology within the BACnet communication
protocol.
The BACnet Interest Group Europe (BIG-EU)
expects the official release by ASHRAE to occur
within the next few weeks. “The release at the
BACnet committee meeting at the end of October
in Atlanta was an important step after intensive
preparations following up to the publication,”
confirms Bernhard Isler (Siemens), ASHRAE and
BACnet Committee Member, main author of the
BACnet/SC Addendum and also Head of the
Applications Working Group. Before being published
as Addendum 135-2016bj to BACnet
2016, the addition had to go through the publication
process of ASHRAE. No further approvals
are necessary.
Compatible with all BACnet devices
BACnet/SC is a virtual data link layer for the
existing BACnet stack based on the WebSocket
protocol. BACnet/SC is compatible with all existing
BACnet devices via standard BACnet routers.
Numerous manufacturers have already
equipped their new products with “BACnet/SC
ready”. At Light + Building (March 8th to 13th,
2020), users will be able to obtain detailed information
about the new IT security in the BACnet
standard. The motto at the BACnet stand will be
“BACnet – Open and Secure”.
The White Paper of the same name also provides
detailed information about BACnet/SC. It
is freely available in the ASHRAE Bookstore.
