REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICE – MV KRAITBy Tony Marsden, ACA NSW Vice PresidentThis year we conducted our annual pilgrimage to the MV Krait forour Remembrance Day Service held at the Australian NationalMaritime Museum (ANMM) in Darling Harbour, Sydney.The service was conducted by Dr. Reverend Dennis Nutt and thewelcome address by Assistant Director for ANMM Mr Michael Harvey.There were several VIPs guests including the Consul General Mr. LucianoValentim da Conceicao, Timorese United President, Mr. Andre Monteirohis wife Filomena Monteiro and the Vice President, Carlos Pereira. Wealso had students from Amaroo School in the ACT attend and we werewell represented by our members.The service was conducted next to the WW2 vessel Krait and wreathswere presented to ANMM restoration staff that helped restore her to layon the deck. Some of Horrie Youngs family were present and Dianne, Garyand Jason laid a wreath in his honour. Yvonne Langley-Walsh laid a wreathin memory of the 2nd/2nd and 2nd/4th Commando Companies.Readings during the service were done by our President WayneHavinaar, Vice President Tony Marsden and after the Last post, Minutessilence and Reveille Zack Lynch who’s the Australian youth Ambassadorfor War and Peace in the Pacific spoke on Why it’s important for us toremember. Matthew Gategood of Amaroo School in ACT spoke ofOperation Jaywick and Gemma Steele for Amaroo School spoke aboutwhat Remembrance Day means to her.Commando 4 LifeTony MarsdenAust. Cdo Assoc.
