WILDLIFE & HABITATSSTATE OF NATUREEarthwatch was one of more than 70 wildlife organisations whopartnered to produce the State of Nature 2019 report. For thefirst time the partnership was also joined by governmentagencies, to present the clearest picture to date of the status ofour species across land and sea.Our Naturehood project is profiled in the report, as an example ofhow organisations are engaging people with garden wildlife.Going beyond isolated individual actions, the project empowerspeople to work together to create Naturehoods – networks ofwildlife-rich space that have a significant impact on biodiversity.The State of Nature Report highlights that we are still a long wayfrom leaving our environment in a better state than we found it,while the climate and biodiversity crises make painfully clearthat this is desperately needed. Amidst this serious message, thereport also provides inspiration and hope. Thanks to theincredible work and determination of conservation charities andtheir army of volunteers, there are signs of recovery in someareas.YOUR FEEDBACK“As individuals we can all take positive action for nature, and ofcourse, we will make the biggest difference by workingtogether, whether that be communities uniting to transformneighbourhoods into Naturehoods, or farmers coming togetherto improve water quality.”37%of teachers taught outside once a fortnight or less prior to Teach Earth.78%of teachers used citizen science in learning less than once a month prior toTeach Earth.E D U C A T I O N N E W S L E T T E R6
