EQUIPING GOSPEL MINISTERS WITH ESSENTIAL COUNSELLING SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Article 3
The uniqueness of pastoral intervention in
mental health
“The way God designed our body is a model for understanding our lives together
as a church: every part dependent on every part. If one part hurts,
every other part is involved in the hurt and the healing. If one part flourishes,
every other part enters in the exuberance.”
– 1 Corinthians 12:25-26
The pastor in a faith community is always expected
to play his role as a shepherd of the
flock. in executing different tasks. While leading
the church is the main assignment or task, it can
be executed in diverse ways. He serves as God‘s
oracle, dispensing the word of truth from the podium.
He is a teacher, instructing and equipping
his members and the church. (Ephesians 4:11-
12);
He is a decision-maker; one in charge of administration,
effectively working alongside the
committees, planning and executing one thing
or the other, and returning feedback to the committees
and boards.
He is a carer, taking time to visit with the sick,
the weak in faith, the introverted and minister
strength to them through prayer and the word.
