Flavours of Campbelltown
In 2018 Council celebrated 150 Years. In 2020 Council continues to celebrate its food and diverse cultures
from pre- settlement to today where many waves of migration have influenced the changing food culture in
Campbelltown, enriching the cultural heritage and creating a unique blend of food experiences from a variety
of different backgrounds.
This booklet has been produced over a number of years to recognise and promote some of the unique and
high quality food and beverage businesses that operate in the City of Campbelltown and to highlight fantastic
experiences such as the Moonlight Markets and Pizza Festival, that were built off the back of the Food Trail.
There are many tasting pleasures to be enjoyed by visiting these businesses, talking to their staff who share
their stories, purchasing their goods and recommending them to your friends and families. The award-winning
Flavours of Campbelltown Food Trail has something for everyone, with more experiences on the way.
Michael Keelan – Ambassador
It has been a great pleasure to be the Ambassador for the Flavours of Campbelltown Food
Trail since 2012. Not only have I lived within the region, I have a great passion for food and
the experience it provides. The Food Trail initiative by Campbelltown Council is a classic
example of a council striving to support its businesses and local community by utilising its
own skills, networks and opportunities to the advantage of others. From such a simple idea
has evolved a program that is having a massive impact on the whole community with the attraction of
visitors and new businesses alike to the Food Trail and associated events.
I urge you to take the time to visit all or any of the businesses listed in this booklet – take it from me,
they are all delightful and unique in their products and experiences. This is a wonderful promotion of
local businesses with amazing stories and events that I am proud to be associated with. I sincerely
welcome each of the new business members and thank all those returning businesses for their
contribution as active members helping shape the character of Campbelltown.
Regards
Michael

Da Darbar Pakistani & Afghani Fine Cuisine
Owners: Tahir Farooq
Run by Chef Tahir and his family friend Saeed, Da Darbar serves
genuine Pakistani and Afghani fine cuisine. The restaurant boasts
dumplings to flavour-rich charcoal grilled barbeque options.
Tahir and his family moved from Pakistan to Australia 15 years ago.
Tahir grew up eating and cooking the traditional dishes of Pakistan,
cooking developed even further.
Da Darbar from the outside may not look like a ‘traditional’ restaurant,
but more of a home that welcomes you to visit. The dining atmosphere
within the family run restaurant presents a formal yet comfortable and
cosy experience, attributable to the gentle ambience of traditional
Pakistani music, as well as the service presented by not only the friendly
waiting staff but also of the owner and head chef Tahir.
San José Smallgoods
Owner: José Coutinho
San José Smallgoods was founded in 2006 by José Coutinho who
has over 30 years experience producing artisan salumi. Originally
from Portugal, he migrated to Australia at age 18 and worked for
over 17 years as a smallgoods Production Manager before setting
out on a life-long dream of owning his own business and becoming
one of Australia’s most celebrated smallgoods producers.
At the core of the company’s philosophy is a passion for producing
uniquely exceptional products and José’s staunch refusal to
compromise on quality. They purchase fresh pork, exclusively from
South Australian farmers, including free-range paddock roaming,
female heritage Black Pigs. The pork is then de-boned, trimmed,
salted, spiced, cured and matured on the San José premises, all by
hand and never leaving the watchful eye of José.
Their range or artisan cured meats (specialising in prosciutto and
jamon) is inspired by the flavours of Italy, Spain, Portugal and France,
where José pulls inspiration from his childhood food memories.
The result of this craftsmanship together with the use of fresh local
produce is an authentic artisan product. He melds together unique
‘from scratch’ flavours with traditional ‘slow’ techniques used for
centuries in Western European food preservation, without the
need for artificial flavours, preservatives and fillers. The result of this
dedication is reflected in the taste of San José’s multi- award winning
range of products.
Springton Hills Wines
Owners: Giovanni (John) and Connie Ciccocioppo
Springton Hills Wines is a small boutique winery where all wines are
produced on their purpose built estate. All of the wine is made from
fruit grown on the property, which has been progressively planted by
the owners since 2001.
The winery is owned and run by the Ciccocioppo family, who pride
themselves on the integration of the traditional wine making process
with modern practices.
The two main varieties grown at Springton Hills Wines are Shiraz and
Riesling. Other varieties include Chardonnay, Cabernet, Grenache
and Montepulciano, which was brought to Australia by early Italian
immigrants and coincidentally comes from the same region in Italy
where the owner and wine maker was born – Abruzzo. All Springton
Hills Wines fruit is hand-picked and usually processed within one or
two hours of picking. Their red wines are all fermented in an open
fermenter, which is temperature controlled.
In the short period that Springton Hills Wines has been established it
has been awarded some fantastic accolades: Their wines include
award winning varieties from the Sydney International Wine Show and
the Barossa Wine Show, and they have received top reviews from
Winestate Magazine. The James Halliday 2011 Wine Companion
awarded the winery top accolades with a 5 star rating, which is
reserved for outstanding wineries.
