The IBCC is one of themost comprehensive records of BomberCommand in the world. During theSecond World War, more than a millionmen and women supported BomberCommand with the majority comingfrom the UK and Commonwealthcountries. Out of the 125,000 aircrewwho served, it has been predicted thataround 72% were killed or seriouslyinjured. The digital archive of losses,memorial walls and iconic spirecommemorate those aircrew whosignificantly changed the outcome ofWorld War Two.Highlights for 2020 include: 25thApril – Anzac Day. The AustralianDefence Minister and other dignitarieswill be unveiling the stone to the6,500 Australians who lost their lives inBomber Command, which was placedby the Australian War Memorial CEO,Dr Brendan Nelson.8th May – the IBCC will be markingthe national VEDay 75 celebrations withtributes which will include pipers, a lonebugler and the reading of a speciallycommissioned poem ‘Tribute to theMillions’. The Op Manna/VE Day flowerbed will also be officially unveiled.10th May – the annual motorbikeevent, InSpire, will take place at whichover 800 bikes will ride to the centreto raise awareness and funds and willattend a service of thanksgiving andremembrance at the Memorial. This willinclude camping the previous night withlive music and BBQ.15-16th August – 1940s weekendwhich will include a host of themedactivities and stands and the annual BlackOut Blitz Ball on the Saturday evening.13th September – Wings and Wheels,the Centre’s classic car and aviationHeritage event.IBCC is open 9.30am–5pm (wintermonths until 4pm) Tuesday to Sundayevery week and open on Bank holidayMondays.
