Crippin honored for Helpfulness; Plotner is top athlete

OCEF celebration coming in March

The 13th annual OCEF banquet

and celebration will be at 6 p.m. on

March 7 at Sleepy Creek Vineyards.

The OCEF offers three scholarships

and many teacher grants

each year. They have also helped

fund technology improvements in

all three buildings, including a 1:1

Catering and the music will be

provided by the Live Jukebox Show

with Comet alum David Howie.

All proceeds from the night will

directly benefit the students and faculty

of Oakwood CUSD #76.

Spring conferences

on March 18 and 19

OHS will hold parent-teacher conferences on Wed.,

March 18, and Thu., March 19.

We hope you will take advantage of the opportunity

and schedule appointments with one or all of your

child’s teachers.

The conference will allow teachers and parents to

meet and discuss the progress of the student. At this

time, you will be able to voice any concern you might

have.

To schedule a conference, go to our website and click

on the Menu link located at the top of the page, then go

to “Parent/Teacher Conference Signup.”

If you do not have computer access, please call the

office by March 17. If a teacher wishes to schedule a

conference with you, you will be notified.

Parents can begin signing up for the conferences on

the website on March 11.

Cheer takes 14th at IHSA State

The Comet cheerleading team took 14th at IHSA

State on Fri., Feb. 7, narrowly missing another trip to

the finals on Saturday.

The girls performed well and came away proud of

their performance.

The cheerleaders also had a celebration on February

11 at halftime of the boys basketball game, when

the program honored Coach Kacie Jones for her 10

years of service to the program. Many former cheerleaders

came out to show their support for Jones.

Jones will be stepping down as coach after this

season. In her tenure as OHS’ cheer coach, Jones has

won seven Vermilion County titles, has qualified for

IHSA State seven times, and has four top 10 finishes

at State.

Comets enjoy WinterFest

and “Snow Ball” dance

Student Council hosted their WinterFest Week from February 3-8.

The week included dress-up days (Merchandise Monday, Top Hat

Tuesday, White Out Wednesday, Pajama Day, and Purple and White

Day) and all-school games in Homeroom.

The week ended with the Sadie Hawkins style “Snow Ball” dance.

Students were honored by Best Solo, Best Duo, and Best Group.

The Class of 2024 will be

the guests of OHS at 7 p.m. on

March 16 for the annual freshmen

orientation.

The 8th graders and their

parents will be invited to the

school to get tours, talk with

teachers, learn about class options

and gather information

about their freshmen year.

All students who are enrolling

next year are encouraged

to attend.
