Since 1913, Cobre Valley
Regional Medical
Center (CVRMC) has
provided health services to
Globe-Miami. More than a
century later, CVRMC continues
to grow with the changing
needs of the population it
serves, providing care to the
region of the Copper Corridor
and the communities of Tonto
Basin, Young, and Roosevelt,
located north of Globe-Miami.
The strength of CVRMC is
the focus on five areas which
include the patient experience,
people, growth, community,
and financial stewardship.
CVRMC holds themselves
accountable for providing
compassionate, quality, patient-centered
care. Their earnest
responsibility is to grow
medical services according
to the needs of the population
and they take to heart their
social and public responsibilities
as healthcare leaders to
be engaged with the communities
they serve and to be responsible
for the planning and
management of their financial
resources.
For CVRMC, 2019 brought
about many changes, additions,
and on-going programs.
The staff of CVRMC continued
several training classes in
communication and empathic
interaction. Every new hire,
medical intern, and contracted
worker participated in customer
service training and evaluations
continued to be based on
standards of performance. Dr.
Ring and Dr. Werrell of the
Providing health services for a century
Red Rock Clinic became
providers of CVRMC
and the CV Tonto Basin
Clinic opened for service.
The new Skin Clinic
provides removal and
biopsies for any unusual
growth. For patients on
dialysis, in-patient dialysis
was implemented this
past summer, eliminating
the need to be transferred
to another facility.
Pharmacy services were
implemented at the CV
Kearny Clinic when the
only pharmacy in town closed
its doors. The addition of the
Observation Unit has been
beneficial for patients, allowing
physicians to monitor their
health condition before admitting
them to in-patient status
or, if their condition improves,
discharging them home.
Medical equipment continues
to be a priority for
CVRMC. Two hyperbaric
chambers were added to the
Wound Clinic services to deliver
advanced treatment for
difficult wounds. An additional
C-Arm was purchased for surgical
procedures, a blood gas
analyzer, a “Phaco” machine
for cataract surgeries, stress
test equipment, an additional
ultrasound machine, and updated
wheelchairs.
CVRMC is not sitting back
in regards to the treatment of
cancer. Chemotherapy is now
offered at the hospital and has
been steadily growing in patient
volume. The radiation
building located on the hospital
campus has
been purchased
by
CVRMC to
begin radiation
treatments
by
March of
2020. The
purchase of
the “Halcyon” radiation machine
is the latest and most
precise technology used to destroy
cancer cells. CVRMC
will be the first hospital in the
state to acquire this top-of-theline
technology to benefit those
who are currently traveling
great distances over long periods
of time for radiation treatments.
The purchase of the “Hologic”
3D mammography machine
will provide the earliest detection
of breast cancer. Hologic
takes previous mammography
one step further and will produce
an image 30% higher in
resolution which will increase
the detection of breast cancers
earlier and reduce the number
of false positive studies. Patients
who are diagnosed with
breast cancer, and most other
types of cancers, will now be
able to receive all their care at
CVRMC.
CVRMC’s Physicians and
Physician Assistants of Family
Practice, Orthopedics, General
Surgery, OB/GYN, Pediatrics,
Podiatry, Oncology/Hematology,
Cardiology, Internal Medicine,
Radiology, and Emergency
Medicine continue to rise to
the expectations and needs of
the population of the service
area. Directors and Managers
maintain the highest standards
in all the ancillary, surgical,
therapy, and in-patient services
provided by CVRMC. Infection
rates continue to be significantly
below the state and
national averages while all surgical,
cath lab, ancillary, therapy,
and in-patient numbers are
on the rise.
CVRMC is currently upgrading
their electronic medical
record to Meditech Expanse
and is scheduled to “go live” in
June of 2020. A user-friendly
enhancement to Meditech Expanse
called Jellyfish, will enable
patients to self-schedule,
receive appointment reminders
via text messages and apps,
2-way patient messaging, and
many other features which will
increase patient control and
communication.
While many rural hospitals
across the nation are closing
and facing high rates of
negative operating margins,
CVRMC continues to operate
in the black and is constantly
assessing the healthcare
needs of the region. The accomplishments
CVRMC has
made in 2019, and will continue
to make into 2020, are
a direct result of a dedicated
and compassionate workforce,
a steadfast Board of Directors,
and strong supporting management,
who are all focused
on one mission – The mission
of your health provided with
quality, efficiency, and compassion.
