My Mission
Few people seem to know how to help vapers particularly teenagers quit. A New York
Times article said as much in its headline: “A recent documentary on vaping drew a
similar conclusion and no one knows how to help you stop.” Until now.
To date most addiction specialists have relied on techniques used to help smokers quit
but it’s not the exact same thing and vaping delivers nicotine nearly three times faster to
the brain so this addiction is a perfected and perfectly dastardly foe.
Vapers don’t identify themselves as smokers so all the campaigns and programs directed
at smokers aren’t reaching vapers in the same way. The social stigmas are different.
Vapers skew younger.
Regulations are lacking as is manufacturer quality control and producers are confusing
vapers intentionally with mixed messages about health and safety risks.
All of that is why decided to write this book. It extends a personal mission that has led me
across the country around the world and into a career that never envisioned for myself.
Earlier in my life worked as a successful weather anchor at a top ten TV morning show.
By night multiple addictions ruled my life: food, alcohol, cigarettes and crystal
methamphetamine. At one point tiny blood vessels were bursting all over my face and my
hands developed a tremor.
It felt like was dying. I was just thirty-five years old. In a rare moment of lucidity terrifying
realities hit me: How long will it take before I drive home wasted and kill someone? How
long can I keep living like this? Do I want to die like this?
Soon after I checked into a rehabilitation center which began a brutal journey from
hopelessness to healing. I got sober, and practiced it to perfect it. It was hard, and since
then have remained in recovery without relapse.
From that point, I have dedicated my life to helping those addicted to all sorts of hurt,
recover for good and get their lives back on track and to helping families get their loved
ones help too. Of my four addictions nicotine was absolutely the toughest to break.
Cigarettes felt like my ever-ready friend—who wanted to kill me. I thhen realized that
wasn’t giving something up but was taking back control of my life and found the strength
needed in order to quit. It wasn’t easy, but it is simple. Now I show others how.
Throughout my recovery journey I studied nicotine addiction and learned how cigarettes
keep smokers hooked, identified cues perpetuating the habit and researched the
disastrous health consequences.
