Feb. 25, 2020Music world loses yet another young artistBY ALEX BURITAEntertainment EditorIn the late morning on Feb. 19, fanswere shocked when they read alertsinforming the death of Bashar Jackson,better known as Pop Smoke.At the age of 20, Jackson was unexpectedlyshot to death by four maskedfigures during a home invasion of theLos Angeles residence he was stayingat.“It is another tragic lost Pop Smokewill never be able to live up to the potentialhe had,” junior Alex Seok said.It is suspected that this occurredbecause he posted his uncensoredaddress publically on social media earlieron the day he died.This was most likely inadvertent asthe post thanked fans for sending gifts.This tragedy again brings worldattention to a trend that has beenincreasingly plaguing young rappers ontheir rise to success.This rise was also highlighted by thedeaths of Lil Peep, XXXTentacion, andJimmy Wopo, who were also shot ontheir rise to fame.As for the men who shot Pop Smoke,Netflix comes out with second season for Narcos: MexicoBY SUAD MOHAMEDCo-Editor in ChiefEarlier this month, Netflix releasedthe second season of its crime thriller,Narcos: Mexico.Originally, this new season and theone before it were supposed to serve asfourth and fifth seasons to the originalshow, Narcos.Based in Colombia, that show chronicledthe life and dealings of Pablo Escobar,the infamous drug cartel leader inColombia.However, Narcos: Mexico was eventuallydeveloped to be its own show.“I think that it was smart of the producersand directors to make it its ownseparate show,” junior Sumaya Ahmedsaid. “Even though the concepts of thetwo shows are similar and they attractthe same audience, there is a big differencein the plot and focus of the twoshows.”Narcos: Mexico explores the growthand conflicts of drug cartels in solelyMexico, as can be inferred by the title.In the first season, the show captureshow Miguel Angel Felix GallardoFast and furious on another rideBY ERIK RIVASEntertainment EditorFor many Fast and Furious fans, itwas safe to say that The Fate of the Furiouswould not be the last ride.This was proven correct with therelease of the trailer for F9 which is setto release in May of 2022.Many got tired of the franchise afterthe seventh movie and thought it wouldbe the last one since the death of staractor Paul Walker.Walker’s character Brian O’Connellis said to make a surprise return, as ithas been six years since he passed away.A character who made a return inthey have not yet been identified.The likely motive was jealousy orpersonal beef with Jackson.Similar to the death of Juice WRLD,Pop Smoke’s death brought grief fromother famous figures in the rap worldsuch as Nicki Minaj, 50 Cent, Gunna,and Chance the Rapper.His death came just a day after hisnew mixtape: Meet The Woo, V.2 hitnumber 7 on the Billboard 200.His most famous productions cameduring his collaborations with artistssuch as: Lil Tjay, Travis Scott, Callboy,Jackboys, and Nicki Minaj.The week following the release ofthe mixtape, a deluxe edition was addedthat featured remixes with Nav, Gunna,and PnB Rock.This would have been the beginningof Pop Smoke’s lucrative career, as hewas planning to go on tour starting inWashington D.C. not even two weekslater.“I believe we need to start knowingmore about these upcoming rappersbefore others are taken too soon,” juniorIsaac Nebyu said.Although Pop Smoke only had a twoyear career, he will be remembered as atalented artist that rose to fame quickly.discovered the profitability of drugs andstarted his drug trade, turning it into abig operation which came to be knownas the Guadalajara cartel.The season ends with Felix killingthe main DEA agent coming after him,known as Kiki Camarena, and leveragingthe government to give him protection.However, the second season sees thefall of the drug kingpin’s success.He faces many struggles, with mostof his companions becoming disloyal dueto pressure from other cartels and theMexican government.Eventually, he builds ties withColombian cartels, who need to useMexico’s proximity to the U.S. to smuggledrugs across the border.However, this leads to the U.S. andthe DEA applying more pressure on theMexican government, who want to joinNAFTA and build an alliance with theU.S.Overall, the second season garnereda lot of good reviews. It was justas good as the first season and was easyto watch.the trailer and was predicted by manyfans to die was Han Lue.“The few recent ones have been morerepetitive in what they do now, juniorEvelyn Granadoz said. “At this point Iknow what to expect and what will happen.”Overall, the main concensus bymany fans is that the series should cometo an end, as it has been over 19 yearssince the first release.The main idea of the newer movieshas simply changed.“I have always been a big fan of thefast and furious series. When the firstmovie came out, it was based on carsand more racing than anything else,”junior Isabella Rodas said. “As thePop Smoke was killed during a home invasion at age 20 in his home.
