OCEF celebration
coming in March
The 13th annual OCEF banquet and celebration will
be at 6 p.m. on March 7 at Sleepy Creek Vineyards.
The OCEF offers three scholarships and many teacher
grants each year. They have also helped fund technology
improvements in all three buildings, including a
1:1 Chromebook ratio for every student 4th grade and
up in the district.
The OCEF would love to have your support and you
can help them out by coming to the celebration and enjoying
an evening of food and music.
Admission for the night is $25 per person. You can
get a ticket by contacting a member of the OCEF or by
contacting one of the schools or the unit office.
The food will be provided by Encore Catering and
the music will be provided by the Live Jukebox Show
with Comet alum David Howie.
All proceeds from the night will directly benefit the
students and faculty of Oakwood CUSD #76.
Proposed facility tax
to be focus of meeting
Superintendent Larry Maynard will be hosting a
community meeting to answer questions about the
County Schools Facility Sales Tax that will be on the
ballot on March 17.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on March 2 in the
Multi-Purpose Room at Oakwood Grade School.
Maynard will present information about the proposed
tax and answer questions from the community.
The tax, if passed, could add over $400,000 annually
to Oakwood schools, which could be used for buildings
and grounds or for paying down the bond to reduce
property taxes.
The tax would add 1% to most items in Vermilion
County. Some of the items that are exempt would be
groceries, medicine, vehicles, seed, fertilizer, and farm
equipment.
