What Is Sustainable

Agriculture

Sustainable agriculture defined as an integrated system of plant

and animal production practices having a site-specific application

which over the long term can satisfy human needs while enhancing

environmental & stakeholders’ life quality as a whole, and make the

most efficient use of nonrenewable and on-farm resources. The

goal of sustainable agriculture is to meet society’s needs, especially

in agricultural-related matter such as food and textile in the present

without compromising the ability of future generations to meet

their own needs. Sustainable agriculture practitioners are trying to

integrate three main objectives, which are a healthy environment,

economic profitability, and social & economic equity. There are

many topics that could be discussed and integrated regarding

sustainable agriculture, one of them is soil management. As soil

health and fertility are among two of the focus in sustainable

agriculture practices, usage of chemicals and contamination from

various pollutants into soil became main factors to be monitored.
