Uratile:Describe your dailyroutine?Sicelo: Every day I have to balance being amother, wife, cooking and the biggest task,being full-time at work, as my company isone of the Covid-19 equipment suppliersand we are part of the national task force ofsupplying and manufacturing detergents,sanitisers as well as approved Covid-19 testkits in Zimbabwe.Uratile: What message do you haveto fellow young Zimbabweanstudents who are into start-ups?Sicelo: My motivation to all those studentinnovators who want to own and run asuccessful business in the future is to, “Takethat first step.” You can be anything youwant to be. It doesn’t matter what the nextperson says. It’s about having big dreamsthat keep you up at night. Self-affirmation.Action. You’ll perfect it as you go. Tumbleand fall and try again. Most innovatorscan come up with brilliant ideas but thedifference between the ones that will makeit and the rest, is that drive to take the firststep. You should remember that you willonly be able to connect the dots when youlook backwards so if the path is not clear, donot be afraid, instead, embrace the fear andwork your way into greatness. I started myown company at the age of 23 and lookingback, I can surely testify that I wouldn’t haveimagined that this is how far I would havegone when I set off and I can only imaginewhat the future holds for me. The same canhappen for you but you need to take thatfirst step. They do say the graveyard is full ofthe greatest ideas but what came out of themif they were never implemented. Do not livea life of regrets and what ifs, rather take thatstep and get someone to guide you as yougo, mentorship is key in helping you grow.The Wheel 8
