Holiday time . . . . .
Dear Readers,
As another month passes and we start to come out of “lockdown” I thought we
could have a look at some of the better travel apps. Spain has, at the time of
writing as Phase 2 starts, decided that hotels etc. can reopen after almost
three months. There will be many offers appearing in the coming weeks as the
Spanish government has said from 1 July people will be able to come here
without having to be in quarantine for two weeks,
For those of you looking to get away, what can you do? Start with
www.SkyScanner.net An app, and website whose primary purpose is flights,
but in more recent years also include hotels and car hire. The flights shown
are “scheduled” to fly but in these difficult times, may not be guaranteed. So
once we have managed to get to our chosen destination, what next? First up
is car hire. www.rentalcars.com Again a handy app and also online. This site
searches hundreds of cars at your destination. Recently following a minor (!)
incident with my car (by minor I mean bending the back axle when it hit a
manhole cover that had lifted and was hidden in a deep puddle) I needed a
hire car and putting my details in found Centauro Car Hire were the cheapest
and not too far away. Although I could book through the app, I found the price
and then booked and paid online direct with the car hire company website.
Why? I find the app is great to find a price, but sometimes there are unseen
restrictions, but booking direct there are none. For insurance I generally use
Globelink (for Expats) although I know www.comparethemarket.com has a
comparison site, which although it is turned off at the moment for COVID-19,
when it is switched on will give you all the information you need. Finally, what
to do once you are away. Take a look at www.viator.com Enter the name of the
place you are visiting, and it will give you a list of attractions and offers.
Finally, stay safe.
As always, if you have any queries, please do let me know, that’s Andy at
