Before I knew it, graduation day arrived. Why hadn’t my father
called to say what time he would be in town? He only lived an hour
away. Was he going to come to the house before the ceremony to take
pictures with me? Or maybe he would meet me there. But how was he
going to get his ticket? I had no idea, so I called him. Of course, he

driver’s license. He hadn’t been there when I turned sixteen. He never
comes to any of my cheer performances. He never came to even one
of the many awards ceremonies where I was honored, and he was
going to miss the biggest day of my life. I didn’t care if I ever saw him
again. As far as I was concerned, he was dead to me.
