WHEN PLANS
CHANGE...
Jeremy Clague of Hampstead NH, graduated from
MCC with an associate degree in behavioral science,
though college was never part of his original plan.
He had joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 2007 after
graduating from Pinkerton Academy, then served
in Iraq and Afghanistan, where Jeremy was injured
by an explosion in 2010. He returned to the U.S. to
recover. But to add insult to injury, Jeremy was hit
by a car while riding his motorcycle and suffered a
traumatic brain injury. This meant his plans to attend
Marine Security Guard School at Quantico would
never materialize.
While working a desk job in California during his
medical rehabilitation, Jeremy began to suffer from
post-traumatic stress disorder and started therapy
and intensive counseling. This was also about the
time that Buddy, his service dog, came into the
picture. The combination of Buddy and successful
therapy and counseling propelled Jeremy to
refocus his life choices. He became inspired to study
neuropsychology.
While at MCC, Jeremy was an honor student and
served as president of the Veteran’s Club. He was also
a voting student member of the Community College
System of NH’s Board of Trustees, serving alongside
community and industry leaders.
But MCC was just the beginning. Jeremy transferred
to UNH-Manchester to work toward his bachelor’s in
neuropsychology. Then eventually Jeremy will earn
his doctorate so that he can help trauma patients
directly – as he was helped earlier in his life.
