MORE UPDATESCLAY COUNTY FAIRSPENCER, IOWA | WWW.CLAYCOUNTYFAIR.COM | POSTPONED UNTIL 2021The following are portions of a statementreleased by Jeremy Parsons, ClayCounty Fair CEO and Manager:For the past several weeks, we havegathered information, talked with publichealth authorities, and dialogued withour partners in an attempt to fulfillthe Fair’s mission of providing a “safefamily atmosphere” in the midst of theCOVID-19 pandemic. After exploring alloptions, the answer is clear. We simplycannot. The Clay County Fair will not beheld in 2020.The absolute minimum to keep ourentire Fair family safe would be followingthe current public health recommendationsof social distancing and increasedsanitation. Unfortunately, we discoveredthat implementing these measureswould have eliminated some of ourgreatest Fair traditions and made othertraditions unrecognizable. We couldn’timagine limiting the standing-room-onlycrowds at the draft horse show or the4-H beef show. Fifty percent capacity atour free entertainment tents? No way.We didn’t want partially empty exhibitbuildings so we could properly sociallydistance our vendors. We didn’t like thethought of making your family wait in sociallydistanced lines to enjoy Grandpa’sBarn or the Depot.No matter how hard we tried, we couldn’tfind a way to give you the entire “World’sGreatest County Fair” experience thatyou have come to love, expect, anddeserve.For more than a century, your unwaveringsupport has made us “The World’sGreatest County Fair” and we cannotthank you enough. Just like you, we aredisappointed that we won’t be togetherthis September. More than that, we areheartbroken because we know this decisionwill impact each of you directly, andour community as a whole.
