Enjoy the fresh air andwide open spaces with a short walk inthis alpine wonderland. Our adventurecontinues on to Omarama, over theLindis Pass and through the ruggedKawarau Gorge and Gibbston Valleyonto Queenstown - our home for threenights.Day 3: Queenstown - Milford SoundFollow the shores of lakes Wakatipuand Te Anau into the mountains, beechforests and waterfalls of spectacularFiordland National Park. Cruisebeautiful Milford Sound, home to seals,dolphins and iconic Mitre Peak beforea magnificent scenic flight back overthe Southern Alps to Queenstown.Day 4: Queenstown Sightseeing -Glenorchy - TSS EarnslawWe start our day with a ride up theSkyline Gondola for the best views ofLake Wakatipu and the Remarkables.Then we’ll take the Glenorchy roadto the head of Lake Wakatipu for alakeside lunch and the famous Lord ofthe Rings scenery. Once back in townwe enjoy a cruise on Lake Wakatipuon the famous TSS Earnslaw, beforereturning for dinner.Queenstown - Arrowtown - CardronaValley - WanakaWe call into leafy, picturesqueArrowtown where gold mining historycomes alive beside the Arrow River.From the Crown Range we take in thelast views of the Wakatipu basin. Welunch at historic Cardrona Hotel andenjoy a tour and tasting at the familyowned Distillery nearby before arrivingat Edgewater Resort, our lakesidehome in Wanaka.Day 6: Wanaka - Haast Pass - LakeMatheson - Franz JosefWe drive beside lakes Hawea andWanaka and into the mountain andriver scenery of the Haast Pass. Thereare short walks in the beech forests towaterfalls and coastal scenery at ShipCreek to enjoy. Lush rainforest lines theroad as we head north to Fox Glacier,Lake Matheson and on to Franz Josef.Day 7: Franz Josef – Okarito Lagoon –Hokitika – PunakaikiAt Okarito we take a nature cruise onthe lagoon looking out for birdlife inwetlands bordered by ancient forests.Our local guide Paula takes us ona walking tour of this tiny historicalsettlement. We visit the artists ofHokitika before reaching PaparoaNational Park and Punakaiki, our homefor the last two nights of our adventure.Day 8: Punakaiki - Denniston - WestportSee the Pancake rocks, blowholes,limestone cliffs and karst rock formationsand river valleys of subtropical forest.Further up the coast, Denniston Plateaugives an insight into the lives of earlycoal miners and their families. We strollto the seal colony near Cape Foulwindbefore returning down the coast road toPunakaiki.Day 9: Punakaiki – Arthur’s Pass –ChristchurchFrom Lake Brunner we drive up the OtiraViaduct, a spectacular cantilevered road,and stop to photograph the cheeky Keaparrots and enjoy the alpine and riverscenery of Arthur’s Pass National Parkand the Canterbury High Country beforecontinuing to Christchurch Airport.moatours.co.nz 11
