• In general, Broadway plays were far less diverse than
Broadway musicals. Caucasian actors were employed in
almost 80% of all available roles in plays. African Americans
represented at 14.5% of roles. The lack of representation
of Latinx (2%), Asian American (1.2%), MENA (2.4%),
American Indian/Native/First Nation (0%), and performers
with disabilities (0.8%) was especially pronounced. In raw
numbers, these percentages equated to only 5 Latinx, 3
Asian American, 6 MENA, and 2 performers with disabilities
out of a possible 249 non-musical roles.
