WELCOME to Solano Community College! Greetings from your Superintendent-President Welcome to a new class schedule for the upcoming semester. This useful guide is designed to support you in making the right choices for the upcoming semester and planning your educational pursuits as a Solano Community College student. You have several options for your studies and we want you to choose wisely. Meeting with one of the College counselors will help you plan a schedule that is right for achieving your educational goals. Your plan should reflect what you want to gain out of your SCC experience, so take it seriously and use it to help attain your goal! A variety of services are provided to ensure your success. By taking advantage of the services, you will avoid pitfalls and you will be connected to resources to make your College experience meaningful and less arduous. The suite of services we offer our students includes financial aid, counseling, free tutoring support for students with disabilities; career planning, student activities, support for veterans, and more. Your counselor can introduce you to the services appropriate for your circumstances. For those of you interested in going on to a four-year college or university, we have many associate degrees and transfer programs. If you are seeking to upgrade your skills to find new employment, we have successful programs offering certificates of achievement. If you are simply continuing in your pursuit of life-long learning, then you have lots of choices as well, especially through our noncredit and Community Education offerings. Our dedicated and enthusiastic faculty—many with regional, national, and international reputations—have extensive knowledge and expertise to share with you in our many state-of-the-art multimedia equipped classrooms or labs. Marie Young Area 3, Vallejo Anamaria Eljach Student Trustee The College’s Governing Board meets the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Room, 626, of the Administration Building, Fairfield campus. All meetings, with the exception of closed sessions, are open to public participation. QUALITY EDUCATION at an Affordable Price (see chart in printed schedule) As a full-time student at Solano Community College (SCC), you can expect to pay a little more than $1080 in annual fees (30 units at $46/unit). You’d pay more than $ 5,778 a year at a California State University (CSU) campus and $11,893 at a University of California (UC) campus. SCC offers lots of financial aid options and scholarships to help you maximize your financial resources. INCREASE YOUR EARNING Power The average lifetime income of a SCC graduate with an associate degree is more than $1 million—about $250,000 more than a person with only a high school diploma. SCC graduates earn as much as twice the State’s average wage in some cases. Employers also recognize the value of an SCC education. Many SCC students receive job offers immediately upon completion of our highly popular technology and healthcare – $100K career programs. INCOME and Education Associate of Arts and Science degree holders earn 22% more than those with a high school diploma. You are able to complete lower division general education and major preparation courses prior to transferring to any public, independent, or out-of-state college or university of your choosing. Solano students may be guaranteed admission to many UC and CSU campuses through Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) programs. It is important to work closely with your Solano counselor to develop an appropriate educational plan. Please visit the Transfer Center in Room 438 or ask your counselor for more information.
