College lifeThere are a total of 29 different undergraduatecolleges in Cambridge, but no matter which one youchoose to apply to your course and quality ofteaching will be the same. A college is your homefrom-homefor the duration of your life at university.It is where you will be eating and sleeping, as well asmeeting lots of friends studying things other thanyour own subject. Old or new, large or small, it’s anentirely personal choice.6The next section is designed to tell you all you need toknow about what will be available to you at Selwyn.
AccommodationAll freshers in Selwyn live together inCripps Court (top right) so you get to knoweach other very fast! Everyone has anen-suite and shares a kitchenette between4-8 people. Each floor is mixed gender andpeople studying a range of subjects.After first year, students choose theiraccommodation by a random ballot (youmay enter with a group of friends); theballot order is then reversed in the thirdyear. Room prices, including utilities, varybetween £110-£180 a week, as there are avariety of sizes to choose from, some ofwhich are en-suite, and you only pay forthe time you’re in residence (30 weeks peryear, with an average annual fee of £4,350).Old Court (middle right and bottom left) isthe oldest part of Selwyn, and many of therooms here have recently been refurbished.These rooms have great character with oldwindows and some rooms will have aseparate bedroom. As they mostly haveshared bathrooms, they are relatively cheapin cost.Ann's Court (bottom right)is the newest of thebuildings and has themore expensive rooms asthey are all en-suite. Theserooms are generally larger,with a kitchenette sharedbetween up to six people.7
