NZ’s Sikh body slams Pakistan
on transfer of Kartarpur Sahib
management to ‘non-Sikh body’

Pakistan government’s recent transfer
of Kartarpur Sahib management to ‘non-
Sikh body’ and calling it against the religious
sentiments of the Sikh community.

Society NZ vehemently condemned Pakistan
government’s recent move of taking away
management of revered religious shrine from
Sikh body and handing over to ‘non-Sikh
body’. Speaking to the Indian Weekender
Singh said, “We strongly condemn Pakistan
government for taking away management from
Sikh body and giving to the non-Sikh body.”
For uninitiated Pakistan government has
transferred the management and maintenance
of the Holy Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib away
from the Pakistan Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak
Committee, a body run by the minority Sikh
Community, to the administrative control
of the Evacuee Trust Property Board, a
non-Sikh body.
“How can one expect someone who has not
basic understanding and knowledge about the
tenets of Sikhism manage the revered shrine,”
Singh said.
“This is a violation of Sikh religious
sentiments,” Singh further affirmed.
Kartarpur Sahib is a gurdwara in Kartarpur,
located in Shakargarh, Narowal District, in
the Punjab province of Pakistan – the historic
site where the founder of Sikhism, Shree
Guru Nanak, settled and assembled the Sikh
community after his missionary travels.
This religious shrine is located close to the
borders of the two countries India and Pakistan
and in 2019, on the occasion of 550th birth
anniversary of Shree Guru Nanak Pakistan
government has opened a corridor to facilitate
a rare visa-free travel of Sikhs from India.
Notably, five special Sikh delegates from
Supreme Sikh Society has travelled from New
Zealand to Pakistan on a personal invitation
from Pakistan government at the time of
historic opening of the Kartarpur Corridor in
November 2019.
At that time, Sikh Society had hailed the
historic opening of the corridor as a symbol of
unity, peace and brotherhood.
However, that earlier bonhomie
notwithstanding, Singh was unequivocal in
criticism of Pakistan government’s latest move
that clearly tramples that earlier demonstrated
goodwill towards Sikh minorities in
the country.
Earlier, the government of India have also
condemned Pakistan government for this
unilateral move which runs against the spirit
of Kartarpur Saheb corridor and the Sikh
community at large.
