ExecuTrek: Ex Cougar Salvo
We were guests of the CFLC for an
ExecuTrek Tour of Cougar Salvo 2012
held in Boise, Idaho, May 4 and 5. Our
group consisted of 30 guests. We left
Vancouver on board our chartered ‘Air
North’ Hawker Siddeley 748 and arrived
in Boise at noon Friday, May 4. Our tour
OPI was Commander King Wan. We
were greeted by Lieutenant-Colonel
Romano Acconci, Deputy Commander
of 39 Canadian Brigade Group, and were
transported on our bus to Gowen Field,
Idaho National Guard (see the attached
link for full details of this excellent
training centre:
GowenField/GowenField.asp). We
dined in the mess hall with various
members of 39 CBG.
The initial plan was to proceed to
‘Orchard Training Area,’ about one hour
out of Boise, in order to observe the
various units of 39 CBG in the field. The
trip was cancelled when the troops were
ordered to stand down for safety reasons
when an unexpected sandstorm with
winds of 70 knots and driving rain made
it unwise to proceed. The backup plan
was implemented and we were brought
to a lecture theatre where we were
briefed by Colonel Bryan Gagne, Commander
39 CBG, who clearly outlined
the mission. He provided us with full
details of the unit participation in this
complex scenario of a combined Field
Firing Exercise at Level 3/4 (Troop/
