Two Fridays ago in the mid-afternoon I was oblidged touse Settlers Way from the airport.Once we had reached the red robot and were obliged to stop atthe intersection leading from the harbour, a number of taxis andsedans flew past us using the emergency lane on the left with littleregard for traffic entering from the harbour.Then they moved across to the right lane for access to Fleetstreet, two of which then accelerated to the lane going right at theLinkFM studio, only to force their way back into the traffic lanesmoving forward. Then at the robots at Buffalo street and OxfordStreet, traffic advanced into the intersection against red robotsblocking our progress and causing huge traffic jams.These culprits have no consideration of the laws and what isintelligent action at robots.It is hightime that the traffic police did their duty to controltraffic to render our roads safe. Are they too intimidated ordownright scared to confront traffic offenders?The irony to this saga is that on the Saturday morning, whileexercising along Beach Road, I witnessed a traffic officer checkingon and indeed fining owners for expired vehicle licences.I have yet to see this over many years, traffic officers doingtheir duty of monitoring traffic in any of our streets.I keep clear of the CBD purposefully as I’ve heard traffic is utterlychaotic and that errant drivers rule the streets.It is now time for the “f o rc e ” to face these offenders to attempt tostem their unlawful and dangerous conduct.Barry Chapman
