More events are planned – includingpresenting Willem Lange reading Dicken’sChristmas Carol on Dec 18th.And now – in the spirit of #GivingTuesday,the spirit of this time of year, and LNT’s longstandingcommitment to being a good neighbor– Lost Nation Theater’s Board ofDirectors has decided LNT will share anydonations received on #GivingTuesday (Dec1, 2020) with CIRCLE.By splitting our donations with CIRCLEwe also pay a tribute to the theme of our lost2020 season: celebrating women and theiraccomplishments in honor of the 100th anniversaryof the passage of the 19th Amendment.Department of Public Safety Seeks CommunityInput on Law Enforcement Modernization PlanThe Vermont Department of Public Safetyis seeking public and stakeholder feedback toshape and refine the state’s continuing workto modernize policing across Vermont.This opportunity for comment and feedbackis part of Governor Scott’s Public SafetyReform Initiative, created through ExecutiveOrder 03-20, which directed the commissionerof public safety to “actively engagewith communities, particularly those communitiesthat have been historically marginalizedor harmed by policing, as we develop anddeploy best policing practices.”“Ensuring all voices are heard as part ofthis process, and giving those who have beenmost impacted by systemic inequity a seat atthe table, is critical to the success of our workto strengthen the fairness and equity of systemsof policing and justice,” said GovernorScott. “It is our hope we will receive significantpublic input as we move forward.”Members of the public will be able to providedetailed comments online regarding severalpolicies and strategies that flow from theGovernor’s Executive Order and, in part, a10-point plan presented earlier this year bylaw enforcement and public safety leadersfrom throughout Vermont.In addition, pursuant to the Governor’sExecutive Order and Act 165, an act relatingto a statewide standard and policy for lawenforcement use of force (S.119), theDepartment of Public Safety is seeking inputfor a statewide model policy for law enforcementuse of force. The state is seeking proposalsfor model policies or guiding principlesto be considered in the creation of thisuniform statewide policy.This is just the first step in creation of thispolicy. Members of the public will have multipleopportunities to review drafts of thispolicy and offer feedback as it goes throughthe development process, from guiding legislationto a final draft.“In January we put forth a suite of modernizationproposals. In June, together with avariety of partners from inside and outsidegovernment, we added a specific 10-pointstrategy to the discussion of modernizingpolicing and public safety in Vermont.
