people with intellectual and<br />
psycho-social disabilities are not<br />
allowed to participate in society.<br />
We can’t work, marry, vote, access<br />
health, own funds, or be free.<br />
Everything is decided for us.<br />
This is called guardianship.<br />
The UN Convention on the Rights<br />
of Persons with Disabilities,<br />
ratified by almost every country,<br />
calls for the abolishment of all<br />
forms of guardianship. States<br />
must ensure that everyone gets<br />
the support they need to make<br />
their own choices.<br />
However, guardianship continues<br />
to be the paradigm throughout<br />
the world.<br />
