Brainwave OnlineBrainwave Online is a virtualtherapy service, delivered byour qualified therapists througha secure, NHS-approved videocalling platform called medio.link.We have chosen this platform toensure the best possible privacyand security, to safeguardchildren and families, and toensure we are complying withbest practice.We launched the service in June2020 and families have said thattheir sessions are the same highstandard they have come toexpect from Brainwave. They alsonoted that being at home, in theirown environment was helpful fortheir child.Additionally, families have notedthat the new service has savedon travel time/costs and theneed to make arrangements forsiblings too.The service mirrors, as muchas possible, our face-to-faceassessments, offering the samehigh level of support. Althoughthis is a remote form of therapy,we have found that it demandsas much, if not more, of thetherapists’ time due to the extracommunication they need tohave with families. Firstly, theyneed to ensure the service isappropriate for the child andtheir family, and also that theyhave the correct equipmentrequired.Brainwave Online has beenpopular with our families andmany have expressed that, inthe future, they would want toconsider a mix of both face-tofaceand virtual therapy.Therefore, we will continue tooffer Brainwave Online alongsideour regular services.8brainwave.org.uk
A typical BrainwaveOnline reassessment...Ahead of the session, the Therapy Team will spend some time lookingat the child’s Therapy Programme and will contact the family to havea setup call to chat about their child’s recent progress and also toensure the connection and device are suitable.On the day, for a one-day reassessment, the therapists will:• chat to the family about the child’s history and current progress,• assess the current Therapy Programme of exercises and activities,• adapt the Therapy Programme and demonstrate new exercises andactivities,• observe parents or carers demonstrating the activities andexercises and help with any pointers or tips,• following the session, they will pull together a pack of resourcesincluding video demonstrations, and also arrange for any specialistequipment to be delivered.There will be breaks throughout the day and the therapists can fit thestructure of the session around the family and the child.Find out more about Brainwave Online:brainwave.org.uk/brainwave-onlineenquiries@brainwave.org.uk | 01278 429 089 9
