Every year, tons of Graphene are applied to Vittoria tires and wheels making

the company one of the most relevant organizations dealing with this material.

As a result of this, the Vittoria Industries Group has become

a new member of the Graphene Flagship project.

Founded by the European Commission, the Graphene Flagship is the leading

association regarding research and commercialization of graphene in Europe.

With a budget of €1 billion, the consortium represents a new form of joint,

coordinated research on an unprecedented scale, forming Europe’s biggest ever research

initiative. The association involves more than 150 academic and industrial research

groups in 23 European countries. The core mission of the Graphene Flagship is to bring

together academic and industrial researchers to take graphene from the realm of academic

laboratories into European society within 10 years, thus generating economic growth, new

jobs and new opportunities.

THE BEST UPGRADED

Graphene interacts with rubber by filling the space in between the rubber molecules. It acts like a magnet, making rubber

molecules closer to one another and improving the overall rubber structure. With the aim to always push the boundaries

of what is possible, Vittoria succeeded in the development of a new generation of Graphene: GRAPHENE 2.0.

GRAPHENE 2.0 (G 2.0) takes the original Graphene compound foundation that Vittoria built, and functionalizes the

advancements in performance, for each specific application. In other words, where the first generation of Graphene

compounds raised the bar evenly, GRAPHENE 2.0 pin-points each performance metric, and increases it disproportionally

to the rest. Vittoria is now able to apply Graphene in such a way that it can achieve a performance boost specifically for

speed, wet grip, durability, and puncture resistance.

GRAPHENE 2.0 is a radical change applied in the design phase of new products and consumers can experience the

difference. Various specific areas of improvement are targeted. Then, by creating defined chemical bonds between

GRAPHENE 2.0 and rubber, the desired benefits will significantly improve without negatively impacting the other key

properties.

Depending on the type of tire and its requirements, GRAPHENE 2.0 addresses the desired performance to improve.

Considering MTB tires, GRAPHENE 2.0 significantly improves wet grip in all product lines. Regarding Road tires,

GRAPHENE 2.0 significantly improves durability and mileage.

The company invested several million dollars in the one and only extruder in the world able to mix 4 compounds in a

single tread: an impressive high-tech machine which is a true miracle of engineering. This is Vittoria 4C technology.

Vittoria 4C compound layering technology features separate base and surface compounds, in both the center and the

side areas of the tread. This approach enables the Vittoria team to fine-tune the

The Air-Liner is a high-quality polymer insert, which replaces a portion of the air volume in the tire. This trait, combined with the shape,

provides a tunable system that enhances your ride performances. The Air-Liner destroys the traditional compromise of stability vs. grip,

and allows your tires to remain stable, grippy, and controlled, even at low pressures.

The Air-Liner is designed using a round cross section, with channels on the top and bottom. The top channel provides room for the

tunable air chamber that sits directly beneath the tire tread. Upon impact, the corner edges of the channel flex first, and progressively

build to the thicker portion, as the tire is compressed. This allows the tread to remain flexible, which increases traction, without sacrificing

impact resistance. The bottom channel allows for easy fine-tuning of the air chamber, and allows for full compatibility of all valve core

styles. The round cross-section shape mimics the natural shape of the tire, and supports a greater contact area within the sidewalls of

the tire casing. Side-to-side tire stability is increased, yet the tread remains soft and grippy. This improves cornering, climbing, and braking

performance.

Vittoria’s e-MTB compatible tire range begins with some of our most popular MTB treads. e-Barzo, e-Agarro, e-Martello and

e-Mazza are the treads composing this new line which has been designed to meet the needs of every e-rider within XC, Trail and

Enduro segments. The e-MTB tire range development started from Vittoria’s best technologies for off-road tires and took it to the

next level. The first step was to understand the needs of e-riders. Heavier and faster bikes require robust, durable tires you can

trust.

We started from the casing. Vittoria e-MTB tires use a 2-ply casing with sidewall protections for the best puncture protection

and to protect the tire from the weight and power of electric mountain bikes. The second step was the compound. We optimized

Vittoria best compound technologies: 4C (4 compounds) and Graphene 2.0. Because of their power, e-MTBs need treads that do

not wear out fast. Graphene improves the tread

durability and rolling. This trait is very important as it positively affects the battery consumption. The 4C technology, the layering

process allowing to place 4 different layer of rubber compound in the same tread, improves the knobs strength and flexibility.

Therefore, they can better resist to the strong accelerations of e-MTBs (they do not tear off because of the higher torque) without

compromising the grip.

COTTON CASING VS NYLON CASING

Casing is the part of the tyre on which the tread lays: it is fundamental in sustaining the structure of the tire and in protecting it from punctures

and external agents. Vittoria road tires are made with cotton or nylon casing.

Vittoria top-of-the-range tires (Corsa and Pista lines) use cotton, a light material which makes the casing very flexible. The cotton threads allow

the tire to conform closer to the road’s surface, providing a smoother ride, easier rolling, and better grip. In order to boost the overall strength of

the casing, Vittoria uses Corespun yarn, which is a particular type of yarn made by cotton and aramid fibres combined.

Rubino and Zaffiro lines use the nylon casing. Nylon is a robust and durable artificial fiber traditionally used for strong tire casings. The artificial

fiber can be very light but is not as supple as cotton.

The advantages of nylon casing is that they are strong and durable. As the nylon fibre is more robust than the cotton one, it provides higher

puncture resistance and extends the durability of the casing. However, the nylon casing is not as flexible and lightweight as the cotton one.

Both cotton and nylon casings from Vittoria are top quality. The choice depends on the rider’s needs. Cotton tires are a better choice if you are

looking for race performance, speed and lightweight above all. Nylon tires are a better choice if you are looking for a robust and durable tire,

that provides higher puncture protection.

BENEFITS OF GRAPHENE

IN CARBON WHEEL APPLICATIONS

The addition of this nano-technology material results in a faster, stronger, more

resilient carbon-composite material. Similarly to tires, when applied to wheels,

Graphene filled the holes in between the carbon molecules bonding with them. As

a consequence, results displayed that carbon wheels increased lateral stiffness,

improved resistance, became lighter and boosted heat dissipation. Moreover, one of

the key findings was that Graphene-enhanced carbon wheels for tubeless tires are

now able to be used at higher air pressures and experience enhanced braking in all

conditions.

All Qurano and Race tubular wheels have graphene-enhanced full-carbon rims that

far out-perform today’s best. This is the future of carbon wheels.

GRAPHENE 2.0-enhanced composites have up to 50% improved material properties.

Tests carried out by Vittoria R&D engineers, confirmed by external laboratories,

found that introducing graphene into the rim’s carbon-fiber matrix has a great

positive impact:

· GRAPHENE 2.0 reduces temperature build-up

· GRAPHENE 2.0 increases material strength by up to 20%

· GRAPHENE 2.0 improves lateral stiffness

· GRAPHENE 2.0 enables further weight reductions for future products

by up to 150 grams/per wheelset

DT STAR-RATCHET SYSTEM

The new hub developed by Vittoria and DT Swiss feature the DT Swiss Star-Ratchet system,

is compatible with all current cassette systems (Shimano 11 speed, Shimano Microspline

12 speed and SRAM XD/XDR, Campagnolo) and better performs with (all current drivetrain

solutions) big sized cassettes like SRAM Eagle or Shimano 46T.

The new DT hub is super smooth and the disengagement when free wheeling is exceptional,

making the wheel rolling fast and almost silent.

VITTORIA SWITCHIT ® TECHNOLOGY

ROAD HUB

All road wheels are built on a hub designed and developed by

Vittoria. Produced to meet the highest possible standards of quality,

Vittoria’s SwitchIt ® hub features industry-proven parts for supreme

performance, time and time again. The spokes, whether round-section

or bladed, are straight-pull and specially produced for Vittoria.

Straight-pull spokes have been specifically chosen over J-bend spokes

as they offer superior strength and are thus less prone to failure. Rear

wheel hubs feature an oversized drive-side flange, with spokes laced

in a 2:1 ratio. This creates the perfect balance in spoke tension on

each side of the wheel, which makes for an ultra-responsive ride.

FREEWHEEL SYSTEM

Most of Vittoria’s road wheel options feature the SwitchIT ® freewheel

system. Cassettes mount on a freewheel body that can be removed

quickly and replaced without the use of tools. This allows for simple

gear ratio adjustments to suit the conditions. Vittoria’s SwitchIT ®

technology works seamlessly with Shimano, Campagnolo or SRAM

cassettes.

multiple sizes, Universal Sealant is the universal antipuncture bike tire sealant easy to use, thanks to its specific pourer that
