Our story starts in the mid 1800s with pioneeringfarmers, sailors and builders, and continues todaythrough our acclaimed adventure company anchoredon responsible, sustainable tourism.When John and Lynette Wilson launched their boatservice in Abel Tasman National Park in 1977, theycontinued a legacy of coastal journeys and adventuredating back more than a century.Back in 1841, Lynette Wilson’s great-great-greatgrandparents – the Newths and the Snows – sailedfrom England with the first British settlement fleet toNelson. Young Amelia Newth is said to have wadedashore, impatient to make landfall ahead of the officiallanding party.Lynette’s great-grandparents, William and Adele Hadfield,were the first European farmers in the Awaroa inlet (nowwithin the boundaries of Abel Tasman National Park).Today, the Wilson family owns and operates Wilsons AbelTasman, with three generations of the family involved inthe award winning business.In 2008, company co-founder John Wilsonwas awarded the Queen’s Service Medalfor services to tourism. From the 2008 NZMinister for Tourism, Damien O’Connor,“You, your family and staff have been ableto set a precedent in tourism quality andenvironmental responsibility that I knowwill be an inspiration to other operators inthe tourism industry”.
