2019-2020 ANNUAL REPORT

A FAMILY WAITING FOR EVERY CHILD

In 2012, Eric & Ashlette wanted to bring hope to the heartache of

children in foster care. At Project 1.27, they found the training and

support needed for success. Over the last 8 years, they’ve fostered 29

children, adopted 2 and become strong advocates for families and

kids in foster care.

WHAT MAKES PROJECT 1.27 DIFFERENT?

YOUTH EXIT FOSTER CARE WITHOUT A FAMILY EVERY YEAR

The training opened my eyes to the real need for

foster parents. Learning everything we did about being

foster parents and the impact that can have on a child’s

life and in their family’s life was really incredible. We feel

very thankful to have found your organization!

- A PROJECT 1.27 FOSTER MOM

Project 1.27 offers 15 years of experience and learning to inspire,

recruit and resource churches and families to successfully fulfill

James 1:27 by caring for children in foster care, their parents, and

the families who foster and adopt. Using Project 1.27’s unique faithcentered

approach that includes trauma-informed, relationshipbased

parenting strategies and guides families in developing a strong

support network, hundreds of Christian families are changing the

outcomes for kids in foster care.

Project 1.27 supports 200 Colorado kinship, foster and adoptive

families every year, who in turn care for over 200 vulnerable children.

58% of Project 1.27 families say they likely would not have fostered or

adopted without Project 1.27.

FAMILIES RECEIVE SUPPORT AND RESOURCES

TO BETTER CARE FOR VULNERABLE CHILDREN

Jill became the full-time caregiver for her two young

granddaughters after years of feeling helpless in addressing her

daughter’s drug addiction. Through Project 1.27’s Kinship Support

Group, Jill and the girls have connected to other families going

through similar experiences. The support found in fellowship and

training with other families has led Jill and her granddaughters to a

place of healing and hope.

Our support has been incredible!! Within an

hour of getting an infant into our home, our friends

brought us basically everything we needed.

Support team training is brilliant!

- NEW PROJECT 1.27 FOSTER FAMILY

PROJECT 1.27 PROVIDES FAMILIES WITH

SUPPORT AND RESOURCES THROUGH:

• Trusted Family Care Managers who provide tools, training,

resources and encouragement

• Training and resources that prepare family and friends to be

an amazing Support Team

• Support Groups for foster, adoptive and kinship families

• Engaging churches and the community in providing meals,

clothing, furniture, school supplies and more for kids in

foster care

Through Project 1.27’s launch of Care Portal in Mesa County,

caseworkers have partnered with 11 churches to keep kids and

families safe. In the first six months, 54 church volunteers served the

families of 92 children by delivering groceries, clothing, bedding,

diapers, school supplies, and helping with gas & rent money.

Project 1.27 provides opportunities for relationship and resources to

hundreds of Colorado kinship, foster, adoptive and at-risk biological

families so they can provide a safe, healing home for the children in

their care.

FOSTER ADOPTION FRIENDLY CHURCH

FOSTER AND ADOPTION

FRIENDLY CHURCHES

Last year, Jon and Julie wanted to inspire their church to care for

the vulnerable children and families in foster care. They started

sharing their story and ideas from Project 1.27 at monthly home

meetings. Already other families have started foster training, began

supporting foster families, and the church just launched a Foster Care

Closet.

It is so easy for churches to become inward

focused and I think what this ministry has helped us

do is to see how the heart of Jesus breaks for the

vulnerable, for the disenfranchised, for the hurting

and the broken and then to see ministries rise up to

care for the least of these.

- PASTOR MARK HALLOCK, CALVARY ENGLEWOOD

A FOSTER AND ADOPTION FRIENDLY

CHURCH IS A PLACE WHERE:

• Caring for vulnerable children is part of the culture

• The congregation is consistently reminded to care for

vulnerable children

• Foster, kinship and adoptive families find encouragement

and practical support

• Children who have experienced trauma, grief and loss can

grow and thrive

Project 1.27 works with dozens of churches each year so children

and families involved in foster care have access to practical support,

encouragement and hope.

THE 1.27 NATIONAL NETWORK BRINGS

HOPE TO KIDS ACROSS THE US

In 2018, Charlotte, NC faced the stark reality of over 600 kids in

foster care with one-third of them placed in homes outside of

their county. With over 1,000 churches in Charlotte, Nicole Taylor

with Congregations for Kids was convinced the church could meet

the need. Since then they’ve served over 250 kids in foster care, in

partnership with 30 churches.

The Project 127 National Network has served as

a lifeline for CFK and for me personally as a leader.

To be able to connect with other like-minded organizations

and leaders to share ideas and resources, pray for each

other and encourage each other continues to be priceless

resource for us. This work is hard, heart breaking and

incredibly frustrating but the Project 127 network lets me

know we are not alone. I am grateful for the brothers

and sisters this network provides.

- NICOLE TAYLOR, FOUNDER, CONGREGATIONS FOR KIDS

THE 1.27 NATIONAL NETWORK OFFERS:

• Monthly one-on-one coaching to potential and new leaders

• Monthly network leader calls to share resources, brainstorm

challenges and inspire best practices

• Access to Project 1.27 resources and experience

• Free Tool-Kit for launching a 1.27 Network ministry in your

community

The 1.27 National Network, launched and led by Project 1.27, has

grown to include organizations in 13 states who together serve over

3,500 children each year.

YOU CAN CREATE INTERSECTIONS OF HOPE!

When my three siblings and I were placed in separate foster

homes, I worried we’d never see each other again. Then, the

Chatwells* invited all of us to be part of their family. Five years later,

we’re all thriving with our Project 1.27 adoptive family.

Kids in foster care need you.
