We can’t stop the government from doing what they want. If they say it’s time to start collecting money at the toll gate, so be it. The people who were arrested have been released and I think the matter should be rested. — David Ossai, Realtor The unlawful arrest and dehumanization of Lekki tollgate protesters by the police is not only an aberration, but also a flagrant infringement on the rights of the citizenry and contempt of democracy. Every citizens has a right to protest peacefully so government has no reason arresting —John Nzekwe, Educationist They were warned not to come out. Lagos State is yet to recover from the loss it incurred last year from the aftermath of the last protest and these people want to protest again. I think the way they were arrested and dehumanized was wrong but if they had not come out, it would not have happened. —Ajayi Tosin, Self employed Any government that intimidates, harasses and arrests peaceful protesters is despotic, desperate, and authoritarian. For God’s sake, our constitution empowers every citizen with the right to protest. What the police did by arresting and dehumanizing the protest is unfortunate. We must all condemn it. — Dare Adu, Techprenuer This is too bad to hear and see from a wonderful country called the giant of Africa. It’s a bad news and a slap in the face of Lagos State and Africa as a whole. <strong>Nigeria</strong> really needs a change but certainly not this type we are experiencing. —Ugo Tony, Footballer If you think that it was the police that carried out that action, I will vehemently disagree with you unless you are trying to professionally shy away from some authorities which of course we should respect on a norm. The way I understand the scenario is that in a place like Lekki there should be some level of civility and respect for rights of citizens. —Philips Eseyade, Pharmacist
