And this from Rosemarie’s nephew, Alan Watson:Dear Anne,I was given your email by my Aunt, Rosemarie Watson, who told me thatyou are looking for information about the Radar research during thesecond world war.I am the second son of Keith Watson who was the first son of William(Bill) Watson about whom Rosemarie wrote to you about.I believe Rosemarie sent you a copy of this photo of my Granddad(Rosemarie’s father-in-law) meeting the King and Queen while workingat the T.R.E. in Malvern.
We had a copy of this photo on the wall at home for many years with anote underneath saying “Bill Watson meets the King and Queen – eitherat Worth Matravers or at Malvern”. Bill had died in 1970 havingdisclosed very little about his activities during the war to his family.I was pleasantly surprised a couple of years ago when I was surfingYouTube looking for information about Worth Matravers during the warand I stumbled upon this video clip:https://youtu.be/DqZeGgqGmLQThe footage was taken at the same Royal visit depicted in the photoabove. For the first part of the video, Her Majesty is without the bouquetof flowers but after leaving the Engineering Unit you can see hercarrying the flowers seen in the photo above. Unfortunately there is nofootage inside the Engineering Unit only still photos. I’m guessing thelight levels inside the buildings was too low for the new-fangled colourfilm. This video helped me pin-point not only the location but also thedate – 19 th July 1944.I remember a conversation with my dad where he told me he’d beeninformed by other sources, long after his dad had passed away, of whatBill had worked on at Worth Matravers and later Malvern College.Apparently Bill, as a metalworker, had been helping to machine thetooling required to perfect the Plastic Injection Moulding process thatwas necessary to produce parts for the Radar Antennas.I hope this information is of interest to you.Good luck with your research.***********************************************************From Judy Wynne-DaviesMy maiden name was Harris, and I am a_aching staff list from TRE Purbeck whichincludes your Dad’s name (Group 10) and my Dad’s - N S Harris (Norman). I willdo more inves;ga;ng and see if I can dig up any photos.
