01IntroductionIn recent years, there’s been arapid acceleration in the adoptionof infrastructure as a service (IaaS)and, consequently, a shift in thetype of on-premises activitiesbeing migrated to the cloud. 1Many organizations now want to take advantage ofcost efficiency, scalability, security, and other benefitsthe cloud offers. Data centers are expensive, withthe costs of real estate, power, servers, storage, andnetworks, plus operations staff tugging on a company’sbottom line. It’s no wonder that organizations see thecloud as a way to reduce—or even eliminate—some orall of these expenses.Migrating to the cloud also allows for more flexibilityand scalability—or the ability to command growingor diminishing resources to capably meet businessdemands. Companies can rely on the advanced securitytechnologies found in the public cloud to protectthemselves against an ever-changing threat landscape.While the benefits are worthy, the migration journeycan be complex.
