ATTEMPT to kidnap
the Bursar of the
University of Benin, Dr Victor
Imagbe, was foiled by an
official of Nigerian Security
and Civil Defence Corps,
NSCDC, attached to his
residence, who incidentally,
lost his life.
The death of the officer, Alex
Osawa, during a crossfire
with suspected kidnappers in
Benin was announced,
yesterday, by the NSCDC
spokesperson, Ogbebor
Efosa.
According to Ogbebor in a
statement, “An officer of the
NSCDC has been killed in a
crossfire with hoodlums, who
stormed the residence of Dr
Victor Imagbe, the Bursar of
the University of Benin.
“At about 03:45 hours
Thursday morning, the
hoodlums gained access into
the bursar’s compound at
Ogheghe community, near
Benin. On sighting the
personnel of the NSCDC
they opened fire, during the
crossfire, our personnel, Mr
Alex Osawa, was gunned
down.
“However, one of the fleeing
hoodlums sustained bullets
wound during the crossfire.
“More officers from the
NSCDC and police
operatives were re-mobilised
to the scene, while the corpse
of the officer has been
evacuated to the morgue for
autopsy.
“Manhunt for the fleeing
hoodlums has been initiated
to arrest them.”

AKURE—A 30-year-old woman,
Titilayo Kudaisi, who confessed
to having made over a million naira
from selling two babies, said she was
lured into the business of stealing
toddlers by her boyfriend, Seye
Akinsete.
Speaking during the parade of 27
suspected criminals by the Ondo
State police command in Akure,
yesterday, Titilayo said she regretted
her actions.
She revealed that she sold her first
child, whose father died two years
ago, for N300,000 based on the
prompting of her boyfriend she met
in Sango Ota, Ogun State, about
four months ago.
According to her, “I was cajoled
by Seyi to sell off my three-year-old
only son for N300,000 in Imo State.
l was invited to Ondo by Seyi, who
informed me about another business
in Ilorin where we stole this baby.
“We went into the house when
the mother went out and we stole
the baby and moved down to Akure,
where we were planning to travel
to Imo to sell the baby before the
police arrested us.
“This is the first child I stole. We
went to steal the child from his
parents’ house in Ilorin, Kwara

AKURE—A housewife, Nanko
Emmanuel, who allegedly
killed her husband’s new wife,
Napre Emmanuel, with a hoe in a
fight at Sunshine Garden Estate,
Oda, Akure, was yesterday
paraded by the Ondo State Police
Command in Akure.
Speaking during the parade of
some suspects arrested for various
offences in the state, the state Police
Commissioner, Bolaji Salami, said

MAKURDI—A 15-year-old
student of Benue State
University Technical College,
Emmanuel Ameh, was electrocuted in
Achussa community of Makurdi, the
Benue State capital.
The JSS1 student reportedly met his
untimely death owing to the alleged
negligence of the staff of Jos Electricity
Distribution Company, JED, in
Makurdi.
Narrating the incident to newsmen
yesterday, an uncle to the diseased, Mr
Samuel Olokpo, said the victim, who
until his death, lived with his
grandmother, Mrs Veronica Odoh, at
Baver Dzeremo Street, was killed while
rolling up service cables carelessly
dropped by officials of JED, who visited
the neighbourhood to disconnect
debtors.
According to Olokpo, “Monday
morning, when everybody had gone to
work and school, JED staff went to do
their round of disconnection of
customers, who were indebted to the
company.
“In the afternoon, some of our
neighbours’ kids were playing around
the pole and one of them made contact
with the wire, his name is Emeka, a
little boy of about five years, and was
shocked. He ran to Emmanuel, who
just returned from school to complain,
being the most senior at home.
“Emmanuel went to roll up the wires
from the ground because when they did
the disconnection they left all the wires
on the ground. He made contact with
the wires and he was electrocuted.
“A neighbour, Jonathan Agi, saw what
was happening and rushed to the scene,
used a dry stick to push him away. The
other persons came too and they were
able to intervene. They cut off the wire
that had power.
“He was rushed to the nearby Ushaka
Clinic and Bishop Murray Hospital,
all in Makurdi, where he was
pronounced dead.
“The Police came and conveyed his
body to Benue State University Teaching
Hospital mortuary where it was
deposited,” he said.
Olokpo also disclosed that top
engineers from the JED office in
Makurdi visited on Wednesday to
condole with the family over the
incident.
Efforts to get the Regional Manager
of the JED office in Makurdi, Mr
Olaniyi Oluwole, failed as his staff, who
refused to disclose his identity at the
Makurdi regional office, said his boss
was not disposed to speaking to
newsmen on the incident.

Emmanuel Akpan, has
said he murdered his boss,
Mrs Febisola Adedayo, because
his friend, Goodness
Ekpe, informed him that
she kept a huge sum of
money in the house.

deceased was a food canteen
operator in Ondo town before
her untimely death.
Akpan and Goodness were later
apprehended at a village in
Ogun State where police detectives
trailed them to after committing
the dastardly act.
Unfortunately for the suspects,
only N3,500 was found in the
apartment of the deceased after
she was murdered in cold blood.
Akpan, who was paraded by the
Ondo State police command in
Akure, told newsmen that “it was
the devil that pushed me to kill
my madam. l received information
from my town’s boy, Goodness,
that my madam has been
keeping a lot of money in the
house. He told me to kill her so
that we can steal the money and
run away."
Akpan, who said he had
worked with the deceased for
three years before he killed her,
regretted that after killing the victim,
he did not find any huge
money in the house.
But Goodness denied asking
Akpan to kill his madam.
The state police commissioner,
Bolaji Salami, said aside the cash
of N3,500 taken away by the suspects,

and a generator set were also stolen
from the house of the deceased.

three babies since I started the
business. We used to sell them to
our buyers in Imo State. The guy
that used to buy the babies from us
told us that he works with an
orphanage.”
The 33-year-old father of three
confessed to convincing his
girlfriend, Titilayo, to sell her baby
boy from her first marriage and said
the proceeds had been deposited
in the lady’s account.
He confessed that each baby was
sold for between N300,000 and
N800,000 according to the needs
of the middlemen.

48-year old popular Nollywood
actor, Olarenwaju James aka
Baba Ijesha, has been arrested by
operatives of the Lagos State Police
Command for defiling a minor.
It was gathered that a case of
defilement was reported, Monday,
against him by one Princess
Adekola Adekanya at Sabo Police
Station before the case was
transferred to the Gender Unit of
the State CID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos
for proper investigation.
It was also gathered that the
suspect confessed to the crime and
was also captured by a CCTV
camera in the house of the
complainant.
A police source revealed that from
preliminary findings, the suspect
started assaulting the 14-year-old
victim sexually since she was seven
years old.
The Commissioner of Police,
Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu,
has ordered for proper investigation
as he promised to do justice in the
matter.
