Sports trophies made in the form of cups are the oldest
form of "man-made" award. Trophies made for the express
purpose of commemorating an event date back to the mid
18th century.
Today, many trophies awarded to winners of sporting
events take the form of a large, decorated cup. Owing to
the common usage of cup-shaped trophies as prizes for
the winners, a large number of national and international
competitions are called "cups“ such as the FIFA World Cup,
Cricket or Rugby World Cup and the Melbourne Cup.
This traditional cup design continues to be refined as
reflected in our range of classic Italian designed cup bowls
and our nickel plated die cast cups. However, the more
modern and elegant laser cut cups without handles have
become increasingly popular, especially when colours have
been added to contrast with the traditional cup colours of
gold and silver.
