LIFESTYLEMake way forpeaceful snoozingAn honest review.Sleep aid apps were topping the app chartslong before lockdown, however with stressand exhaustion levels rising to new heights,downloads have soared.It’s a bitter Catch 22 - the more frustratedabout insomnia, the less you’ll be able to fallasleep. I’d seen the adverts for the Calm appfor months, however it was 1:30am on day onemillion of lockdown, amidst a house move, that Ifinally gave in to desperation and downloaded it.Within minutes I was listening to someinconspicuous person ease me into mymattress. ‘Well this will never work’, I mutteredto myself and promptly woke up six hourslater. I was amazed and spent more conscioushours awake looking at all the app had to offer.Stories, meditations, wave and whale soundsall exist and are but a few clicks away. Intrigued,I decided to try the effects out across thecourse of a month. I wanted to see if I couldfall asleep quickly and if I felt more rested thefollowing day.I was surprised to find that the oppositeof what I thought rang true for me. Howeverthe opposite happened with the meditations.I’m on the go constantly during the day withdeadlines and life in general, so my friendswho told me to try meditating were scoffed atwith the excuse of ‘no time to stop’. Yet, thesoft soothing tones of the meditations willingme to relax from my forehead, neck and armsdown to my toes actually made me realise justhow tense not falling asleep was making me.Even though I was in bed, I definitely wasn’t asrelaxed as I thought …You need to experiment with the app foryourself.
