Since our last article the FA has declared the 2020/21
season null and void for the second successive season.
The club will remain in the NCEL Division One and the FA
has given a provisional start-date for the 2021/22 season
of Saturday 31st July 2021. It will be the earliest start
ever to an NCEL campaign and will allow teams to play a
league fixture before the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round
that takes place on Saturday 7th August 2021. Games
will be allowed to resume from 17th May but the club is
still awaiting confirmation on the position of spectators
before announcing any pre-season fixtures.
Although relaxation of lockdown rules has begun, the
club is still not allowed to reopen for indoor catering of
food and drink. To this end, ‘Pip’s Kitchen’ has increased
its capabilities to provide outside-catering in the beer
garden and play area. The club has increased its table
and seating capacity in both these areas to cater for the
upsurge in custom and high demand already experienced.
Opening times: Friday 4.30pm - 7.00pm, Saturday
12.00 - 5.00pm, Sunday 12.00 - 4.00pm.
Menu: Fish Friday – home-made traditional English
Haddock, handcut chips. Traditional home-made Sunday
lunch. See menu boards for weekend specials. Free
delivery within 3 miles, eat-in, take-away. Hoping to

HISTORY OF BRIGG TOWN FC - PART 2
The first fifty years of the game In Brigg
Although games of football were probably being played in
the Brigg area some time earlier, the first clear reference
to an organised match in the town was reported by the
Lincolnshire Chronicle Newspaper in early January 1864.
It records a game between the Gentlemen of Brigg and
the Gentlemen of Lincoln which had to be postponed
owing to the hardness of the pitch after bad weather. This
was shortly after schoolmaster, Mr.Tring, had drawn up
the Cambridge Rules and the Football Association had
launched its first official set of rules just five weeks earlier,
on December 1st 1863.
With football being well-established in the town by
the mid 1860s, the game became a well- recognised
institution. Club members practised to take part in
important matches in neighbouring towns and by the
1870s games were being played at Lincoln, Grimsby and
across the River Humber in Hull. Brigg Town had become
a strong side and a much sought-after opponent by other
town clubs.
At this time the club had no distinguishing colours but in
1877 it was decided to adopt magenta and white for the
dress of its members.
