S/East govs, leaders warn North: Protect Igbo in your domain
•*Set up committees to meet S/West, S/South, IPoB, MASSOB
By Peter Okutu &
Chinadu Adonu
Leaders of the South-
East, comprising the
governors of the five states,
members of the National Assembly,
Ministers, Speakers
of the State Houses of Assembly,
the clergy and traditional
rulers, yesterday, rose from
a meeting at the Government
House, Enugu, urging leaders
of other geo-political
zones in the country to protect
Igbo living in their regions.
The South-East leaders,
who made the request in
view of what they described
as “threats by some groups
against our people”, promised
to protect everyone, including
Igbo and people
from other regions, residing
in the zone.
There are five other geo
political zones in the country
but the three in the North
have especially been critical
of the ongoing secessionist
agitation in the South-East.
The latest in the brickbats
between the northern geopolitical
zones and the
South-East came to a head
last week when some elements
in the North placed a
bounty on the head of Nnamdi
Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous
People of Biafra,
IPoB, which drew angry reactions
from Igbo.
In a communiqué read by
the Governor of Ebonyi State
and Chairman of South-East
Governors’ Forum, Mr. David
Umahi, the leaders of the
zone reiterated their “commitment
to one united Nigeria
under a platform of justice,
equality of rights, fairness,
love and respect for one
another”.
They explained that the
meeting was held “for articulation
of our positions and
further meet with the Presidential
team”, sequel to the
earlier meeting with the Presidential
delegation, led by the
Minister of Defence, Retired
Maj. Gen. Bashir Magashi,
on June 11, 2021.
The communiqué disclosed
that the meeting consequently
“set up committees
under Ohaneze Ndigbo to
articulate and address our
positions on all burning issues
to further meet among
ourselves and thereafter meet
with the Presidential team”.
It added that South-East
leaders condemned the killing
of security agents, burning
of strategic infrastructure
and killing of civilians in
South East and in other regions,
and requested the security
agencies to discharge
their duties within the rules of
engagement and the law.
The South-East leaders also
condemned, in totality, the
activities of violent secessionist
groups in the zone and elsewhere,
proclaiming firmly
that “we do not support them,
they do not speak for South-
East”.
On the impression that
South-East leaders are silent
over agitations for secession
by some youths of the region,
they said that “is not correct”,
stressing that “South East
Governors, Ohaneze President,
National Assembly
members, notable leader had
come out publicly many times
in the past to speak against
such agitations”.
The communiqué revealed
that South-East leaders, in
order not to mismanage the
unfortunate situation, “have
set up a committee to engage
such youths to stop and allow
elders speak to address such
fears”.
On the safety of the Igbo
indigenes in other parts of the
country and the newly established
regional security outfit,
etc, the communiqué added:
“The meeting directed
our Governors and Ohaneze
Ndigbo to liaise with indigenes
from the northern part
of Nigeria and indigenes of
other regions to assure that
the nation, Nigeria, and their
people of their safety in
South-East.
“The meeting endorsed our
South-East joint security outfit
- Ebubeagu-and asked
them to work with security
agencies and to respect the
rights and privileges of all
those living in the South-East
and our visitors.
“We request our National
Assembly from the South-
East to support State Police
creation in the on-going constitutional
amendment.”
The Committees set up, according
to the communiqué,
are “Agitation; engagement
with other regions; those of
our people in the North,
South-East, South-South and
South-West; IPOB, MASSOB,
Youths and Market people,
Okada and Keke; Diaspora;
engagement with Foreign
Missions”.
COVID-19: We e tak
ake e personal hygiene ver
– Nwokike, CEO of Saftermobo, makers of KilRox Wipes
By Johnbosco
Erunke
BARELY two months after
its deployment into the Nig
e r i a n
market having been launched
in March, KilRox Disinfecting
Wipes has become a household
name in the country.
The efficacy of the product,
which was birthed in Nigeria in
the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic,
has given citizens the best
choice in treating personal hygiene.
Chief Executive Officer of
Saftermobo Nigeria Limited,
makers of KilRox Disinfecting
Wipes, Mr Nnamdi Nwokike,
told Sunday Vanguard how the
product, with 99.9 percent efficacy
in tackling viruses, bacteria
and fungi, is fairing in the
market, why KilRox Disinfecting
Wipes is different and how
efforts are being put in place by
the company to launch another
hygiene product.
“Most wipes that we have are
antibacterial, that is, they take
care of bacteria, but we take care
of beyond bacteria.
“KilRox Wipes is different
from any other wipes because
the ingredients are different and
that is why we went through proper
scrutiny with NAFDAC and
got approval for the product.
“Our wipes take care of viruses
and fungi. It is a product we
call divine product.”
He explained why KilRox Disinfecting
Wipes was launched.
His words: “As the COVID-19
pandemic set in last year, we began
to think of what to do to first
raise the consciousness of hygiene
in our country, given that
Tty project got a boost
yesterday as the President of
oil-rich Ugborhen autonomous
communities of Okpe,
Dr. Nelson Ukoko pledged
his total support for the
project which aimed to establish
Okpe as a nation of itself
and not subservient to any
other.
any form of germs coming in
can spread if people are not conscious
of hygiene.
“With proper hygiene, experts
say that 50 percent of diseases
can be taken care of.
“We focus on raising the
awareness of Nigerians on hygiene
and keeping it going because
that is the key to the whole
world order.”
Nwokike attributed the
launch of KilRox Disinfecting
Wipes in Nigeria principally to
the COVID-19 outbreak.
His words: “Yes, COVID-19
made us so vulnerable. As we
began to think about it, we said
this should be our own contribution
to take care of the effect of
COVID-19 but beyond COVID-
19, we want to say that it’s our
eternal contribution towards
proper personal, industrial,
household hygiene.”
He spoke further: “As people
use the product, they will see the
efficacy level; it’s as good as instant.
It’s like washing your
hands before you do anything.
“You wash your hands when
you come out of the bathroom.
If you touch anything, ordinarily,
you should clean your hands
so that you remain clean.
“Most of the time, our hands
are always moving, touching
other things; so we need to constantly
keep our hands clean;
with our wipes, because it contains
alcohol, you can wipe your
hands and eat your food.
“Catholic priests can also use
our wipes to clean their hands
before touching the Eucharist as
against the water they currently
use. “With our wipes, you can
wipe your hands, you can wipe
your table, you can wipe your
phones, you can wipe laptops,
ATM machines, elevator machines,
hotels and hospitals
On availability, Nwokike
said:” Our distribution continues
to increase every day. We
launched two months ago, and
we have sales people now in Abuja,
Lagos, Port-Harcourt, Enugu,
Onitsha and Awka.”
Lagos community sacks chief for attacking pastor
in palace
* Meiran monarch says peace and security kingdom’s
priority
By Kennedy Mbele
THE traditional ruler of
Meiran Kingdom in Lagos
State, Oba (Dr.) Samuel
Awoyemi Adisa Oroja, says
peace and security is a priority
of his people.
Explaining measures taken
by the traditional council of
Meiran to secure peace in the
area, the monarch told Sunday
Vanguard awareness programmes
had been organized
in the area.
According to him, the traditional
council mediated in disputes
between members of the
community while dismissing
a high ranking chief for alleged
misconduct.
Oroja explained that one of
the disputes the traditional
council mediated is between
Azeez Adekunle, a traditional
leader, and Pastor Oluwarotimi
Adeseha, Meiran Parish
Pastor of Christ Church of
New Testament. “The traditional
council in a move to
guarantee peace and security
also decided to ban the dismissed
chief from attending
the meeting of the Association
of African Traditional Religion
which holds in the palace once
in a week”, he said.
“The chief was originally not
a member of the association
although his wife had been a
member from the beginning.”
Okpe Identity project gets support
The declaration was made
when the leadership of Okpe
Peoples Forum, OPF, led by
its President, Prof. Kenneth
Eni paid a congratulatory visit
on the Ugborhen President
at Sapele, Delta State.
According to Eni, "Firstly,
we are here to congratulate
you on your emergence as the
President of Ugborhen autonomous
communities, we
had planned to come earlier
but the Covid-19 lockdown
hindered us.
"Secondly, to intimate you
on efforts toward achieving
the Okpe Identity project and
to let you add your support.
You have set forth as a distinctive
leader, you know that the
youths are the future of the
Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo,
former Governor of Ebonyi
State, Senator Sam Egwu,
former Governor of Imo
State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim
and former Military Administrator
of old Anambra
State, Rear Admiral Allison
Madueke.
“He had been coming to the
palace on the basis of the
membership of his wife. He
had also been practising tradition
healing in Meiran.
“But since March this year,
I approved the decision of the
traditional council which
banned him from practising
traditional healing in Meiran
and also banned him from
coming to the palace for any
meeting”.
The monarch added that
the offence the chief committed
was that he beat up a pastor
in the palace when the traditional
council was trying to
resolve an issue between them.
community and should be
supported.
"Thirdly, to stand in solidarity
with the Okpe Oil communities
GMOU with SE-
PLAT. There should be a
Community Trust Fund for
the community, the youths
should be trained so they can
fit into the oil industry. You
should create a peaceful environment
in Ugborhen and
other communities”.
