Introduction<br />

Governance training and<br />

development sessions provide<br />

opportunities for governors and<br />

clerks in academies and maintained<br />

schools.<br />

Our webinars are facilitated by our<br />

experienced governance and clerking<br />

experts and include online opinion<br />

polls and the opportunity to have<br />

your questions answered live on air.<br />

This term’s programme includes a<br />

wide range of governance topics,<br />

which will help governors and clerks,<br />

keep abreast of developments in<br />

education and prepare for meetings<br />

in the autumn term.<br />

We are including three face-to-face<br />

sessions this term following<br />

requests made by some governors.<br />

All sessions deepen governance<br />

knowledge and contribute to<br />

ensuring the effectiveness of<br />

governance in your school or trust.<br />

This termly briefing prepares clerks for the<br />

governance meetings coming up this term.<br />

The range of topics that we will focus on will<br />

be determined nearer the time based upon<br />

government announcements, changes that<br />

we believe those involved in governance<br />

need to be aware of and upcoming policy<br />

initiatives.<br />

This session is aimed at governors, in<br />

both maintained schools and academies,<br />

who are appointed to be part of the<br />

Headteacher’s Appraisal/Performance<br />

Management panel. We will explore the<br />

role of governors and how they work with<br />

the external advisor and reflect on objective<br />

setting, mid-year reviews and other<br />

pertinent aspects of the role.<br />

This session is aimed at Members of<br />

academy trusts, and those involved in<br />

governance within academies at all levels,<br />

who wish to deepen their knowledge and<br />

understanding of the role, powers and responsibilities<br />

of Members. We will explore<br />

the latest guidance in the academy trust<br />

Handbook reflecting the Department for<br />

Education’s desire to bring greater clarity to<br />

the Member role.<br />
