It gives us great pleasure to unveil
the first full edition of BluePrint, the
club’s new matchday programme for
the 2021/22 season, in partnership
with long-time partners Ignition
Sports Media.
Much has changed around the
club and BluePrint also marks a
new direction for the matchday
programme, which we know
remains an integral part of many
fans’ matchday enjoyment, as well
as keeping supporters informed
of developments around the
club, serving as a collectors’ item,
generating revenue for the club and
exposure for our many partners.
The new cashless facility in place
around Adams Park will change the
way in which BluePrint is sold, and
you’ll now be able to pick it up from
every retail outlet in the stadium.
But we cannot let the opportunity
pass without thanking the team of
volunteers who spent countless
hours each season, in all weather
conditions, selling programmes
for cash around the ground and
playing such an important part in our
team. This band of volunteers was
organised so wonderfully by John and
Sandie Derben, and we will always
be grateful for their efforts and the
legacy they have left at Adams Park.
So, on with BluePrint, which is a more
condensed programme compared to
previous years, but remains packed
with content from many different
arms of the club. It’s important to
MS : NEW ALBUMS :
OLOGIES : DEFINITIVE ANTHOLOGIES :
showcase what is going on off the
pitch as well as on it, and to give
various branches of Wycombe
Wanderers the opportunity to deliver
their messages far and wide.
The club’s content team is
more committed than ever to
delivering entertaining, engaging
content across many platforms,
predominantly online, and we hope
you’ll stay tuned to the website and
social media channels throughout
the season to keep as close to the
club as you might like.
There may be some features that
are no longer part of BluePrint, as we
continue to evolve the programme
to make sure it’s as relevant as
possible. You won’t, for example,
read biographies of each opposition
player, but you can benefit from
the new state-of-the-art wifi in the
stadium to browse the profiles of
the away club’s website if you’re
interested to learn more about
particular players.
We’ll be bringing plenty of interviews
with the manager and players to the
website and social media channels,
so there won’t necessarily be columns
and interviews in the programme, but
we will endeavour to make BluePrint
as exclusive as possible, with content
you won’t find elsewhere.
So welcome back to Adams Park;
take it all in, and enjoy, because it’s
felt like an eternity without you and
we are so pleased to have you back.
THE CHAIRBOYS
A LOOK AHEAD TO THE NEXT 90 MINUTES
FOOTBALL MAY NOT HAVE QUITE ‘COME HOME’ IN THE SENSE THAT
ENGLAND SUPPORTERS MAY HAVE WISHED OVER THE SUMMER, BUT THIS
PARTICULAR CORNER OF THE COUNTRY IS ALIVE AND KICKING WITH EXCITEMENT
FOR THE RETURN NOT JUST OF THE EFL SEASON BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE
SIGHT AND SOUND OF THOUSANDS OF FANS STEPPING FOOT INSIDE ADAMS PARK
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2021.
On March 13th 2020, football
across the country was suspended
for three weeks as a result of the
deepening pandemic, and even
a break of that magnitude was
considered a major, unwanted and
unsettling separation of fans from
their clubs.
Nobody could have envisaged at
that time that Wycombe would win
promotion to the Championship
at an empty Wembley stadium,
or that the first half of the season
would again be played entirely
behind closed doors.
There was a glint of light at the
end of the tunnel when Wanderers
welcomed a small number of
fans back through the gates in
heavily-restricted circumstances
for games against Stoke and
Coventry, but ultimately Gareth
Ainsworth’s men had to enter the
battle against relegation without
their 12th man at their side – and
narrowly missed out on the great
escape despite a herculanean
effort over the final month.
And so here we are today. With
restrictions lifted, thousands
of Chairboys fans – with a few
hundred from Accrington – will
walk back into a stadium which
has undergone more than a
touch of TLC over the past few
months. One of the country’s
most technologically advanced
stadium sits proudly in the heart
of the Chilterns, ready to bring
the hills alive with the sound of
music, cheers, wild applause and
hopefully celebrations long into the
night after a Wycombe victory.
Standing in the way of that
aspiration is an Accrington
side that has always fared well
in HP12, and have history of
dampening the atmosphere – not
least in 2007 with a 1-0 win on
opening day. Their manager John
Coleman and Gareth Ainsworth
hold a close friendship and deep
mutual respect, having enjoyed
countless battles down the years
and overseen meteoric rises
through the divisions, backed by
progressive, innovative and above
all decent owners in the Couhig
family and Andy Holt.
THE CHAIRBOYs
The new stadium access, food
ordering systems, world-class wifi,
electrifying audio technology, giant
screen, LED advertising boards,
incredible playing surface and
dazzling new kits will all play their
part in a special first day back for
the Wanderers fans, and of course
there are new faces on show
with Sullay Kaikai, Sam Vokes and
Josh Scowen amongst those to
have put pen to paper on deals at
Adams Park over the summer.
Old favourites remain, with David
Stockdale, ex-Accrington man Joe
Jacobson, Jack Grimmer, Jason
McCarthy, Anthony Stewart, Curtis
Thompson, Alex Samuel and of
course Adebayo Akinfenwa ready
to step out in front of fans once
again, while it’s a first opportunity
for last year’s recruits – Ryan
Tafazolli, Daryl Horgan, Anis
Mehmeti and co – to sample a
proper Adams Park experience.
Last week’s ‘test’ event – on and
off the pitch – against Leicester
City was largely a success, not
least due to the 1-0 result over the
FA Cup winners, but also for the
reintroduction of fans for the first
time. Now we’re doing it for real,
and we couldn’t be more thrilled to
have you back.
Be loud, be proud, and enjoy.
Football is back, and you’re part of
the Park once again.
HEAD TO HEAD
Accrington hold the upper hand
with eight wins from the 23 overall
meetings; six of those victories
have come here at Adams Park, and
Wycombe haven’t won this fixture
since 2008/09. These sides drew
1-1 on the most recent encounter
at Adams Park in September 2019,
but the reverse fixture – scheduled
for the final day of the 2019/20
season at the Wham Stadium
– never took place due to the
suspension of the season.
CONNECTIONS
Joe Jacobson starred for
Accrington in the 2010/11 season
and scored for the Reds in their
victory at Adams Park that year,
on a day where Stanley’s new
recruit Archie Procter was a
mascot for the visitors. Adebayo
Akinfenwa has scored 10 times in
19 matches against Accrington;
he only has a better record against
Cheltenham in the whole of the
EFL (12 goals).
MAN IN THE MIDDLE
Charles Breakspear has overseen
14 Wycombe matches in his career,
the first of which came in 2014
with a 1-0 defeat to Portsmouth.
More recently, he was in the middle
for the League Cup clash with
Brentford – showing a straight
red card to Dominic Gape – and
oversaw the 3-1 win over Tranmere
in the last home game before the
pandemic.
AROUND THE DIVISION
MK Dons were rocked by the
departure of boss Russell Martin
and his coaching staff to Swansea
City just a week before the
season, and they begin the season
away to newly-promoted Bolton
Wanderers. There’s a varsity
‘derby’ for another side fresh out
of League 2 – Cambridge United
– who host Oxford United, while
Cheltenham are at Crewe and playoff
winners Morecambe begin their
first ever League 1 season at one of
the title favourites, Ipswich.
The game of the day – aside from
this one here – sees Sunderland
face Wigan in a battle of two
title favourites, particularly with
the Latics’ new investment over
the summer, while Charlton vs
Sheffield Wednesday is a late kickoff
between two sides desperate to
reach the second tier.
There’ll be emotional scenes at
Shrewsbury with boss Steve Cotterill
returning to the dugout after a
prolonged absence due to a serious
case of Covid, while Rotherham
meet Plymouth, Fleetwood take
on Portsmouth, Doncaster host
AFC Wimbledon, and Gillingham
entertain last season’s defeated playoff
finalists Lincoln.
Fans at Adams Park can order food and drink from
their seat and receive a notification to collect it from
the nearest pick-up point once it’s ready!
It’s really simple - once in your seat, either scan the QR
the FETCH app and make sure you select the right
stand that is displayed under the ‘collection’ menu.
Following on from the announcements of new
signings Jack Wakely and Sam Vokes before kickoff
against Leicester last week, the Chairboys have
secured the deals of three more players in time for
the new season.
Goalkeeper Tyla Dickinson arrives from Queens Park
Rangers, while centre-back Max Ram spent time in
non-league last term after leaving Nottingham Forest.
Pacy attacker Tjay de Barr is a Gibraltar international,
playing 24 times for his country and experiencing
Champions League qualifiers with Lincoln Red Imps.
Manager Gareth Ainsworth said: “We’re really pleased
to be growing our squad all the time and bringing in
more and more exciting young talent that we believe
have the potential to enjoy successful careers in the
game.
“Tyla has trained with us throughout pre-season and
shown more than enough to earn a deal, and he’ll
benefit hugely from working alongside Lee Harrison,
David Stockdale and the other young keepers we have
at the club.
“Max will link up with the development squad at first,
but still train alongside the first team, while Tjay has
plenty of experience in senior football with his national
team and his club back in Gibraltar.
“Thanks to the backing of Rob Couhig and the board,
and the fantastic scouting and coaching system that
we now have in place for attracting younger players
to the club, the foundations are in place for us to keep
moving forward on and off the pitch and I’m really
excited for what the future holds.”
You’ll be able to order from a range of food and drink
options, and receive a notification when it’s ready to
collect. You’ll just need to give your order number and
name to verify your collection.
On certain Android phones you may be directed to the
Google Play store to download the full FETCH app.
Adams Park goes
cashless!
Wycombe Wanderers’ Adams Park home will
be entirely cashless thanks to the brand-new
connectivity throughout the stadium.
Fans will be able to enjoy their matchday experience
inside the ground with simple cashless transactions by
card or via smartphone payment apps, in each of the
following areas:
- Ticket office (you can buy online at any time at
tickets.wwfc.com, or in person at Ticket Office 1)
- The stadium shop
- Chairboys Village fan zone
- All stadium bars (including bar tabs for hospitality
lounges)
- All stadium kiosks (which will now be used primarily
as collection points for orders through the FETCH app,
though it will still be possible to order at the kiosks
themselves)
The new cashless payment scheme is designed to
speed up service times, reduce queues, and limit
contact where possible, as well as providing greater
insights for the club into the fan experience, and
allowing for a more efficient financial operation.
Contactless payments can be made up to £45.
Try out the new Park and
Ride in West Wycombe
Wycombe Wanderers have teamed up with Motts
Travel to launch a new park and ride shuttle service
from West Wycombe for home matches.
Motts Travel will operate three 30-seater minibuses,
departing Cowleaze Field in West Wycombe every
15 minutes between 1.00pm and 2.45pm for 3pm
kick-offs, and dropping off passengers at the end of
Hillbottom Road.
The shuttle services for the return journey will be
available to board from 4.45pm, and continue as
required until 6.15pm at the latest.
The first shuttles (the inbound 1.00pm service, and
outbound 16.45pm service) will drop off and pick up
outside the Adams Park gates. All subsequent shuttles
will drop off and pick up at the end of Hillbottom Road,
due to traffic along the road to the stadium.
Cowleaze Field is a 20-acre site accommodating up
to 2,000 vehicles, regularly used for car boot sales,
and can be found at HP14 3BA. Cars should arrive at
the Toweridge Lane entrance and follow stewards’
instructions to where to park.
Volunteers thanked
at Adams Park
Wanderers marked EFL Season Launch day on
Tuesday by inviting two groups of volunteers to
Adams Park for a drinks reception with Gareth
Ainsworth, Rob Couhig and Missy Couhig, as a show
of appreciation for their tireless work to prepare the
stadium and training ground for the new season.
A volunteer squad headed up by Alan Hodgson, plus a
team of grounds staff who have helped with watering
the training ground pitches, were brought together
for a chat and a drink with the manager and directors,
and each presented with a coaching top bearing their
name or initials.
Look out for more news of the volunteers’ efforts in
future editions of BluePrint.
THE CHAIRBOYs
After a long season away, the commercial
opportunities are back and ever- growing at Adams
Park this year!
This season, we pride ourselves in being one of the
only six football clubs in League One to have pitchside
LED advertising, brightening up the newly laid
pitch and creating the perfect opportunity to display
everything your business has to offer - all season
round.
We, at Wycombe Wanderers, give you the opportunity
to create your own adverts, displaying logos, designs,
and everything in between to best promote your
business. Adverts are displayed throughout the game,
as well as pre- and post-match showing the fans of
Wycombe what you have to offer. The best bits of all
WWFC’s home games are shown on the EFL’s football
highlights programme broadcasted via Quest TV every
Saturday – allowing your adverts to reach far and wide.
Have you seen our brand-new LED big screen? - It’s
back, but this time double the size! Our bigger
and better big screen gives you bigger and better
advertising opportunities, a special touch here at
WWFC. Whether you are looking for the perfect
advertising opportunity or a chance to display a
birthday message to a special fan we’ve got you
covered!
Whilst on the topic of brand-new features coming to
Adams Park this season, our hospitality packages,
opportunities, and features have all been upgraded to
give you the best match-day experience.
Starting with our Woodlands Lounge and Woodlands
Executive Lounge we have re-vamped the rooms,
bringing in new furniture, a new catering team and
a total re brand of the experience. The lounges offer
best seats in the house to watch The Chairboys
entertain us for 90 minutes, as well as opening
two hours before the match and 90 minutes after -
allowing you to take full advantage of the inclusive
buffet and drinks packages. What’s not to love?
THE CHAIRBOYs
Alan Parry sums up his excitement ahead of the new season.
In more than 40 years of following
the mighty Wanderers, I have
never been so excited about a new
season as I am about this one.
That may sound strange after our
historic 2020-21 campaign in the
Championship, but the season was
tarnished for me by the absence
of fans.
Competing at the highest
level this club has ever reached
should have provided memories
to last a lifetime, but supporters
were denied the chance to
watch history being made
because of lockdown.
I was one of the lucky ones who
got to see games from the media
seats, but it wasn’t the same
without our fans being there to fill
Adams Park with colour and noise.
It was a tribute to the
professionalism of our players that
they produced some outstanding
performances despite the lack
of atmosphere at games, but I
believe we would still be in the
Championship if supporters had
been allowed to attend last season.
Lockdown provided the ultimate
proof of why you – the fans - are
so important and can affect the
outcome of games. I’m convinced
that your support would have
turned draws into wins and defeats
into draws.
Nevertheless, we still came
mightily close to avoiding
relegation thanks to an
outstanding end to the season,
and the belief and confidence
gained from proving that we can
compete at Championship level
should stand us in good stead over
the coming months.
So, I am excited about the new
season for many reasons. Firstly,
because fans will be back inside
Adams Park after such a long
absence, and secondly because
we have the best squad this club
has ever had since entering the
Football League 28 years ago.
I was delighted when we
signed Josh Scowen, one of my
favourite players in his first spell at
Adams Park; thrilled to welcome
the exciting talents of Sullay
Kaikai; ecstatic that we could
attract a striker of the calibre of
Sam Vokes.
On the evidence of their displays
against Leicester City last week,
I also look forward to seeing
more of Adam Przybek, Jack
Wakely and Olly Pendlebury. We
are truly blessed with a wealth
of outstanding players in every
position and the competition for
places is going to be intense.
You will also notice the changes
and improvements to the stadium
itself. Fabulous new floodlights
and a perfect playing surface; state
of the art Wi-Fi, giant screen, and
electronic perimeter advertising;
a much more convenient catering
service; refurbished lounges etc.
Add in the new park and ride
scheme and other improvements
designed to make it easier to get
to and from Adams Park, and the
club’s future both on and off the
field has never looked brighter.
The Couhig era has brought a breath
of fresh air to our club and we should
all be shouting from the rooftops
that if you want fun, entertainment
and excitement, Wycombe
Wanderers is the place to be.
Sam Vokes who joined the
club from Stoke City. Vokes
walked out at Adams Park to
raucous applause from the
fans who had returned to
see the Chairboys beat the
Foxes 1-0.
The Welsh international
was excited to sign for the
Chairboys and as soon as
Gareth Ainsworth picked up
the phone to him, his mind
was made up.
“I’ll be totally honest with
you, he picked the phone up
to me a few weeks ago and
when I got off the phone, I
wanted to sign immediately.
“He instilled what I knew this
group was all about, but our
conversation played a really
big part and it made me want
to come - I’m glad I have.”
As a new signing, Vokes
wasn’t able to form part of
the side that faced Leicester
City, but praised the
Chairboys for their win and
admitted that he can’t wait to
get out there.
“I’m delighted and I can’t wait
to get going now. It’s been
great being here for the last
couple of days in and around
the squad and it was great
to get signed off tonight. It
was great to see the boys win
1-0 and I thought that they
did brilliantly.”
The return of fans was
a highlight of the Leicester
friendly, but the result was
also a statement of intent
for the coming season in
League One.
“It’s nice being in a stadium
full of people and then to be
unveiled as a new signing
was brilliant, but more
importantly, the team put
on a fantastic performance
against a strong Leicester
team - it showed our intent
and what we’re capable of
this year.”
THE CHAIRBOYs
“ OUR CONVERSATION PLAYED A
REALLY BIG PART AND IT MADE ME
WANT TO COME - I’M GLAD I HAVE. ”
Vokes isn’t a stranger to
the Chairboys side, having
come up through the Welsh
international system with Joe
Jacobson, as well as playing
against Wycombe in the
Championship last season.
“It’s a squad I know quite well.
Obviously I played against the
squad a few times last year. I
know JJ very well - I’ve known
him for years now. I’ve been
in touch with him for the last
couple of weeks, especially
when things started to
happen. It was 12 or 13 years
ago that we played together
for the Wales Under-21s but
it’s nice to meet up again.”
The new number nine is
looking forward to getting off
the mark with his season goal
tally, and noted that Horgan’s
goal against Leicester didn’t
come as a surprise.
“That’s what I expected from
the boys as that’s the way
we play – forward attacking
football which is exciting to
watch.
“The balls that were c
oming into the box are the
ones that you want to get on
After a tough few seasons
at both Stoke and Burnley,
Chairboys fans will be willing
the new signing to return
to previous goal scoring
prowess, and no one more so
than the man himself.
“It has been frustrating over
the last couple of years as I
have been desperate to play
football so on a personal
note, I put pressure on myself
to come in and do well, but,
I’ve got an overall feeling of
excitement to get going now.”
Vokes could make his debut
today against Accrington
Stanley and it’ll be fantastic to
see him pull on a Chairboys
shirt for the first time.
THE reds
THE OPPOSITION
accrington stanley
Nickname: Stanley/reds - Manager: John Coleman - Stadium: Wham stadium - Founded: 1978
One of the EFL’s greatest success
stories of the 21st century,
Accrington Stanley continue to
more than hold their own in the
third tier despite being dwarfed
in size and resource by many
League 1 rivals, and remain one
of the most admired clubs across
the land for the shrewd business
operation led by chairman Andy
Holt, and on-field recruitment and
achievement by long-serving boss
John Coleman.
Stanley stormed to the League 1
title in 2017/18, and were followed
into League 1 that year by the
Chairboys, and finished a creditable
14th in their first season, following
it up with 17th and 11th placings
which more than demonstrate
their capability at this level.
Key to their recent success has been
the frontline pairing of Dion Charles
and Colby Bishop, whose goals have
filled the void of much-loved striker
Billy Kee who moved into nonleague
after starring for the Reds
during their rise from League 2.
Creative forward Sean McConville
has been a regular thorn in the
side of the Chairboys, and he’s
been joined this summer by the
returning John O’Sullivan, with ex-
Colchester and Cheltenham man
Harry Pell bringing experience,
height and a combative approach
to the midfield.
Club captain Seamus Conneely and
defender Michael Nottingham also
help to form the spine of a side
which is becoming renowned for
sourcing young talent from nonleague
or local academies who go
on to prosper at first-team level,
and boss Coleman will hope for
similar success from new recruits
Liam Coyle, Joe Hardy, Ben Pleavin,
Dylan Moonan, Matty Carson,
Josh Woods, Joel Mumbongo and
Archie Procter, who is the nephew
of Stanley hero Andrew Procter
and was mascot for Stanley in a
Wycombe-Accrington fixture way
back in 2011.
Their pre-season saw the record an
eye-catching victory over Blackpool
and a 1-1 draw against Preston,
while they also claimed victory
over Warrington before slipping to
defeat in their final friendly against
Bradford last weekend.
Coleman’s men started last season
in spectacular fashion, seeing
off eventual promotion-winning
Peterborough on day one, and will
hope for a strong August as they
take on sides who won’t necessarily
feature high in the bookies’ odds
for promotion, meeting Cambridge
in their first home game and also
coming up against Doncaster,
Crewe, MK Dons and Shrewsbury in
the early weeks.
Talking of opening days, they
spoiled a party at Adams Park
on the first day of the 2007/08
campaign when Paul Lambert’s
much-changed Wycombe side
slipped to a 1-0 defeat to Coleman’s
men, and they’ve left their last
nine visits undefeated, including
a stunning 4-0 win in their
promotion-winning campaign.
In charge: John Coleman
Coleman became Accrington
manager for a second time when
he succeeded James Beattie in
September 2014. He’d previously
enjoyed a long period at the helm
between 1999 and 2012, during
which time he guided the club
up three divisions and into the
Football League for the first time
since their reformation.
After just under year managing
Rochdale, the Liverpudlian had
short spells in charge of Southport
and Irish top flight outfit Sligo
Rovers, before returning to Stanley.
THE reds
opposition view
We spoke to Accrington Stanley fan Kirsty
Maynard ahead of today’s fixture about what
can be expected from the Reds.
How has the off season gone
for Accy? Talk us through your
preseason fixtures.
Our preseason has gone well, with
a good 3-1 result over Blackpool
in a behind closed doors game,
and a very good 1-1 home draw
with Preston. We finished with
a 2-0 defeat to a good Bradford
side but won against local teams.
We’ve had news that a new training
facility and work at the Wham
Stadium on the main stand has
seen widespread changes, many
thanks to our great chairman Andy
Holt.
You’ve made some new signings
ahead of the season. What impact
do you think those players will
have in the side?
Our business in the transfer market
has been very good and the
permanent signings have made
us stronger in squad depth. John
O’Sullivan returning to the club
is a big boost on the right-hand
side. We’ve made some good loan
signings, notably James Trafford in
goal on loan from Man City. Harry
Pell is a very good addition to add
to our midfield and Mumbongo on
loan from Burnley is highly rated
from our Lancashire neighbours.
Liam Coyle and Josh Woods are
exciting youth players who will get
their chance to prove their ability
over the season.
Accrington placed a very
respectable 11th place last season
in League One. What will be the
target for this season?
The target for this season will
be to improve on last season’s
finish, and even push for play offs.
We struggled with COVID/other
postponed games last season
and injuries last season so if that
doesn’t happen, we could surprise
a lot of teams in this division! We
won’t worry about relegation,
and we are capable of beating
any side in the division. We enjoy
upsetting the big guns, and teams
won’t enjoy coming to the Wham
Stadium.
Who are the key Accrington
players that Wycombe should
watch out for?
The most notable player would be
Dion Charles. Our top scorer from
last season and capped by Northern
Ireland for the first time in the
summer, he has bags of pace and a
great eye for goal. His strike partner
in Colby Bishop is a dangerous
player on his day! We have a strong
defence, Michael Nottingham
and Ross Sykes are old-fashioned
defenders who are dangerous in
the air. Sean McConville and John
O’Sullivan will provide pace and
width out wide and will cause any
full backs in this league problems.
Matt Butcher is a technically good
midfielder who alongside Joe
Pritchard will help the front two in
causing issues in the box.
What sort of style will manager
John Coleman want to play against
Wycombe on Saturday?
We will look to play a counter
attacking but passive type of game,
we like to play the ball on the floor
and deliver crosses from wide areas,
but we aren’t afraid to mix it up and
go long! Dion Charles and Colby
Bishop are a dangerous partnership
and Joe Pritchard will be dangerous
in providing from midfield! We’ve
taken a risk by signing Tommy Leigh
from Bognor Regis, however this is
a typical Stanley signing. Coleman
likes getting players from non-league
and giving them an opportunity at
Football League level, and we have
had great success of doing this over
the years.
Finally, what’s your score
prediction?
1-1. Vokes for Wycombe and
Charles for Stanley. Coley will
however go for the win; he won’t
sit back and take a draw. He trusts
his team to go for goals, so it
wouldn’t surprise me if we won 2-1,
with a late winner.
THE CHAIRBOYs
Calling all Chairboys and Chairgirls who have a disability.
Working in close co-operation
with the Football Club, Wycombe
Wanderers Trust has set up the
WWFC Disabled Supporters
Association (DSA). It is there to
make sure that your voice is heard
and that your concerns are listened
to, in order to make your matchday
experience as good as it possibly
can be.
You are welcome to join the DSA
whatever your disability may be.
Whether you have difficulties with
mobility, or with seeing, or with
hearing, the DSA is for you. We
know that there are many people
with so-called “hidden disabilities”
too, and we work for you as well.
We don’t ask questions about your
disability, but if you want to tell us
about your own experiences as a
WWFC supporter with a disability,
we want to hear you.
The DSA has already organised a
“walk and ride” around Adams Park,
putting together an inventory of all
the things that could be improved
in order to better the experiences of
our supporters who have disabilities.
These range from improving
disabled toilets, to clearer signage,
to providing ramps and levelling
uneven surfaces. We know that the
Football Club does not unlimited
funds to make these changes
overnight, but we are starting to see
things happening.
We will be planning a series of
social events through the season
and are taking time to understand
what our members are looking
for. Even if you would prefer
not to come to meetings, we
welcome your emails and texts
with comments and suggestions.
We’ve already set up a WWFC DSA
Facebook Group, and there will
be more opportunities to follow.
Looking outside of Wycombe
Wanderers, we’re making links with
other Football Clubs’ DSAs, and
with Level Playing Field, the charity
for disabled sports fans, who have
been incredibly helpful to us.
The DSA was set up by Wycombe
Wanderers Trust as part of its
Community Plan and will be
influential in the wider All Quarters
project, jointly with WWFC and
WWSET, which aims to ensure
equal opportunity for all WWFC
supporters, existing or potential.
We have had superb co-operation
from the Football Club in our first
few months, in particular from
Steve Copp, WWFC’s dedicated
Safety Officer / Disability Access
Officer, and from Matt Cecil,
WWFC’s energetic Head of Media
and Marketing. They will tell you
that although the DSA benefits
from excellent relations with the
Club, it is not afraid to challenge
where necessary, and to ask the
occasional awkward question.
So, how do you join the DSA? It
couldn’t be simpler. Just send an
email to dsa@wwfc.com. And
that’s all! Membership is free, and
if you have a carer or personal
assistant, they are very welcome
to join too. You will be added to
our mailing list and will receive
regular updates from the DSA. We
maintain complete confidentiality
and whatever you choose to tell
the DSA about yourself and the
issues that you face, remains with
the DSA and goes no further.
So, the WWFC Disabled Supporters
Association looks forward to
hearing from you and to counting
you within our ranks. Please pass
the word on about us, too. If
you are reading this and know of
someone who might be interested
in joining us, please let us know.
Giving Football Back to
Small Business
At eBay, we know small business and
football clubs used to be like chips and
gravy, two peas in a pod – a match
made in community heaven.
Ironmongers, ship workers, spring
makers and cobblers, all formed clubs
which decades later are still prospering.
But nowadays, you’d think it was all
eyewatering transfers, Super Leagues
and mega sponsors, detached from the
humble origins of our historic clubs.
That’s why eBay are proud to support
300,000 small businesses who help
power EFL clubs nationwide. We’ll be
donating our advertising space to a lot
of these businesses – on match day
hoardings, around grounds and beyond –
throughout the coming season, to ensure
they can continue to thrive in our local
communities. So, join us in giving your
support to Small Business Power, because
today, they need us more than ever.
The phenomenon continues to grow
Summer has been as busy as ever for the Worldwide
Wycombe Wanderers Phenomenon as we’ve
prepared for the return of fans and the opportunity
to welcome international visitors to Adams Park.
We were delighted to welcome Eton Travel as the
club’s first ever International Travel Partner, with the
local travel agency offering package holiday options
to our local fanbase as well as facilitating the visits of
international fans to High Wycombe. To launch the
partnership, Eton Travel have offered a £200 travel
voucher to the winning entrant that signs up via
email at wwfcleisure@eton-travel.co.uk with their full
name and address (chosen at random).
Another initiative with a view to welcoming more
fans from far and wide is the introduction of
international ticketing agents - Champions Travel
and GoSport Travel. Operating in the Irish and
Scandinavian markets respectively, the agencies will
promote Chairboys fixtures to their users and we look
forward to welcoming them to games this season.
Finally, avid Wycombe Wanderers social media
followers may have seen posts about a group of
footballers in Kenya who were big fans of the club.
We reached out to them and sent a selection of
Chairboys kit and footballs for the team to use ahead
of their new season. Wycombe Wanderers FC Kenya
have now played two games in yellow strip from our
promotion winning campaign and we’re excited to
see the team continue their progress.
The club’s Worldwide Programme continues to
grow at an impressive rate, having reached 1,600
international members from 65 different countries
in our first year as well as 20 international fan
groups that have emerged on social media. Whilst
the flags that previously adorned The Whites
Beaconsfield Terrace have moved to accommodate
the returning fans, we hope it isn’t long until we see
representatives from each country here in person.
After a heavily disrupted 2020/21 season, Wycombe Wanderers
Women’s teams will kick off their new campaigns at the end of August.
Summer has seen the women’s section of the club expand for the
second season running, with the first team and under-18s side now
joined by a newly created reserves side which will provide a stepping
stone to help younger players break into the first team.
First team
The first team’s 2020/21 season
saw the side sitting in third place
before the season was curtailed in
early March. Two wins out of three
in the Southern Region Premier
League, with an emphatic 9-1 win
against Newbury before Christmas
showing just what the side were
capable of. A run in the Women’s FA
Cup also saw the first team reach
the 2nd Round Qualifying, where
a depleted squad fell to a strong
Fulham side 1-0, despite creating
the better chances in the game.
Dave Ward continues to manage
the side along with goalkeeping
coach Natalie Morris and new
first team coach Ashley Murphy
has joined the set-up following
the departure of Jack Wells.
The 2021/22 season will be
about re-building following an
unprecedented stop-start season,
but the Chairgirls first team
have still got their sights set on
promotion to the FA Women’s
National League. It will be a tough
ask, with sides like Moneyfields
and Abingdon United, who sat
at the top of the table alongside
Wycombe last season, also vying
for the single promotion spot.
There’ll also be a few unknown
challenges in the Prem as
Abingdon Town and Eastleigh
come into the division following
successful applications.
The first team has seen sweeping
changes to the playing personnel
over lockdown and the pre-season
period. Top scorers Lindsay Pinker
and Stephanie Mobbs departed the
club, while injuries have meant that
the recruitment push has been
even more vital. Sadly, striker Caz
Bisson has been forced to retire
from playing due to an ongoing
back injury and long serving
midfielder Christina O’Connor
has also been forced to hang up
her boots following another ACL
injury. Skipper Charlotte Bagshaw
is awaiting an ACL reconstruction
operation whilst Jordanne
Hoesli-Atkins is recovering from
a complicated ankle break back
in December. The core of last
season’s squad has remained,
but Ward has had to act quickly
to bring in some new additions
to compliment the group. New
additions so far are Kara Howes
and Emma Kern, two youngsters
who have made a positive impact
during pre-season and both Sarah
Harrison and Chante Innis have
returned to the club. Wycombe
stalwarts such as Katie Hudson,
Alicia Povey, Emma Newbury,
Samantha Jackson and Emma
THE CHAIRBOYs
Dean all continue their tenure at
the club. Last season’s additions
Charlotte Parrett and Rae Roberts
have stayed on, along with both
Amy Leach and the experienced
Bobby Lynch who are here for their
third season as Chairgirls.
Reserve team
The newly formed reserve team
consists of mostly last season’s
under-18s side who are now taking
their first steps into senior football.
Last season’s under-18 manager,
Lisa Starling steps up to manage
the reserve team supported by
coaches Stuart Foster and Ed
Tarlton. This squad finished fifth
in the Thames Valley Counties
Women’s Football League under-
18s division last season, winning 7
out of 14, losing only once when
the season resumed in April, seeing
the young squad begin to gel.
Although unconfirmed, it’s most
likely the reserves team will
begin their senior careers in the
Thames Valley Counties Women’s
Football League Division Three
East. Despite its location at the
lower end of the football pyramid,
the league will be no walkover -
with reserve sides from Southern
Region teams Ascot United and
Abbey Rangers, as well as highflying
Thames Valley side Woking
competing for the title.
The reserve team provides a
perfect stepping stone between
youth and first team football, and
last season saw young players
Kiyana Fryer and Maddie Woods
both make first team appearances
whilst Amy Whale cemented her
place as first team goalkeeper as
well as playing for the under 18’s.
Under-18 team
The under-18 side, who have
moved across as a squad from
local side Marlow, will enter the
same league as last year - Thames
Valley Counties Football League,
Under-18s division - and will look
to better last season’s fifth place
finish. The team is managed by
Christian Price supported by Rob
Sage and Andy Robinson.
Similar to the way that the reserves
team will feed into the first team,
there will be opportunities for
talented under-18s to progress into
the reserve team and beyond.
THE CHAIRBOYS
Updates from the Sports &
Education Trust
First and foremost, a massive
WELCOME BACK to this
magnificent Adams Park Stadium
to all awesome Chairboys fans
who have missed this place over
the last 18 months or so! Fans
are the heart and soul of football,
and it really hasn’t been the same
without you!
It was hugely unfortunate for
everyone that fans had to miss
out on the majority of Wycombe
Wanderers’ first season in the
Championship. I say ‘first season’
because you only have to look
around this place to see that
improvements have been made
both on and off the field. From
marquee player signings to
stadium infrastructure, the team at
WWSET would like to congratulate
the club on the giant strides that
have been taken. Giant strides
befitting a club that deserves to
back in the second tier of English
football. There is definitely a buzz
in the air, and now that you’re
back, this is something you can’t
escape as you await kickoff against
Accrington today.
For those of you who don’t
know us, please allow us to
reintroduce ourselves. We are
Wycombe Wanderers Sports &
Education Trust (WWSET), and
we are absolutely honoured to be
the official charity of Wycombe
Wanderers Football Club. Our
aim is to extend the Wycombe
Wanderers brand throughout the
local community, and to motivate,
educate and inspire through the
power of sport.
Simply put, our focus is to be in
the heart of the community and
run activities that improve the lives
of those who engage with any of
our four key departments: Health
and Wellbeing, Education and
Employability, Social inclusion and
Cohesion, and Sports Participation.
Like so many businesses in the
UK, we are not ashamed to admit
that the Covid-19 pandemic was
really tough for us, and we had
to face many challenges in the
delivery of these activities and
projects. As most of our projects
are face-to-face with people, they
were put on hold indefinitely, most
of our fundraising activities were
cancelled and most of our staff had
to endure a period of furlough.
We are, however, one of the
very fortunate businesses who
were able to weather the storm,
although we certainly did have
to undergo something of an
evolution. In late April this year,
amid the restrictions, we were able
to tentatively restart some of our
projects when we were able to take
certain projects online and take the
necessary steps to make sessions
socially distanced and safe.
And by the end of May, we were
able to have the majority of our
courses back up and running in
some capacity. We have had to
persevere, but we got there in
the end, overseen by our Head of
WWSET, Paul Foley, who somehow
managed to keep his head whilst
all around him were losing theirs!
To give some idea of this evolution,
you need look no further than our
Health department, led by Claire
Hawes and ably assisted by Gee
Grou, who managed to move a
full program of Yoga, Indian Clubs
and Mental Health support online
via Zoom, whilst still making the
sessions engaging and beneficial.
Our Sports Participation team led
by Kirk Williams, Lewis Bloom and
Andy Homent also had stringent
government rules to follow with
regards to player safety at their
football sessions whilst also having
to procure the appropriate PPE
and sanitising equipment which
all took meticulous planning.
Our Education team, led by Mark
Heath, had similar challenges in
the schools we work with.
But we came out strong, and
continuing to roll out all summer
THE CHAIRBOYs
long is our ‘Premier League Kicks’
programme which is a flagship
Premier League campaign set up
to inspire young people to achieve
their potential and improve their
wellbeing, which is run by our
own resident superwoman, Clare
Bassett. This is in addition to our
‘Play Into Space’ youth club, a new
girls summer sports camp and our
array of football summer camps,
the details of which can all be
found on the WWSET website.
Additionally, we have worked
hard to be as inclusive as we
possibly can be. We launched the
‘EqualiTeam’ in February, which
is an internal working group that
meets fortnightly. The aim is to
hold ourselves accountable and
to make sure that we are being
inclusive of all people in our
activities and that our internal
and external communications are
representative of the community
we serve. We have also overseen
the launch of the ‘All Quarters’
project which engages with
people from four traditionally
underrepresented groups in order
to help the WWFC family improve
the match day experience at
Adams Park for existing and new
supporters.
Our Fundraising efforts are finally
back in full motion too, and we
are planning a sponsored National
3 Peaks Challenge, a sponsored
Skydive, and a 150-mile sponsored
Bike Ride to Burton Albion’s Pirelli
Stadium which are all in the works
for 2022.
Our ‘Friends of WWSET’
programme that saw its inaugural
season last year, is back and better
than ever! In return for a donation
to our cause, our friends enjoy
matchday tickets, including a VIP
experience in an executive lounge,
as well as advertising space on the
LED pitch side banners, access
to the Adams Park Business Hub,
regular promotion on our social
media channels and newsletters,
a framed, personalised shirt which
is presented at Adams Park and
much more besides.
The full Friends of WWSET package
can be viewed on our website. Or
if you would like more information,
please contact our Head of
Fundraising & Communications,
Mark Fawkes, on mark.fawkes@
wwfc.com.
The first to sign up as a Friend
of WWSET for the upcoming
season are the Buckinghamshire
Council Adoption and Fostering
teams, who recruit, assess,
train and support prospective
adopters and foster families in the
Buckinghamshire community.
Most children who require
adoption have left their families
of origin in difficult circumstances
and the courts will have been
involved, making the decision that
they cannot safely return to the
care of their own families. Before
the court makes this decision
dedicated foster families care for
these children and sometimes
beyond until early adulthood.
Their experiences will have almost
certainly impacted on their
emotional, social and behavioural
development and may well have
long term implications for their
future development. This makes
the work of the Buckinghamshire
Council Adoption and Fostering
teams absolutely crucial, and at
WWSET, we are pleased that we
are able to use the power of the
Wycombe Wanderers brand to help
them reach as many pairs of eyes
as possible and help them recruit
prospective new families to adopt
and foster; and help local children
reach their potential. To find out
more, visit buckinghamshire.gov.
So as you can see, there is a lot
going on here at WWSET, and we’d
love you to be a part of it. Whether
it is joining one of our sessions or
partnering with us to promote your
business, there’s a place for you
here!. Drop us a line on (01494)
NEWS FROM WYCOMBE WANDERERS TRUST
One of the many benefits of being
a Wycombe Wanderers Trust
member is access to exclusive
events – like the thoroughly
entertaining Q&A with Manager,
Gareth Ainsworth, the night after
the 1-0 win at home in the preseason
friendly against Leicester.
You can watch the full interview
by joining the Trust today. In the
meantime, here’s a taste of what
happened.
Nigel Kingston (Chair): So, it was a
great start last night, really, wasn’t
it? I mean, we won, so you must
have some interesting thoughts
about the coming season.
Gareth: Yeah, I mean it’s preseason
still, so, over the years, we
know that we can’t take anything
for granted off pre-season results
but it was a good showing from the
boys, the organisation and some
of the young boys coming in, the
new signings that we’ve got. I think
they’re they’ve added to the squad
again. I think we’ve improved this
squad again this season from last
season. And thank Rob (Couhig);
he’s helping that and Andrew
Howard is back involved, and
Pete Couhig and Missy, obviously,
behind the scenes working. So,
it’s a better club than we were last
year, even though obviously we’re
down a level, but we’re definitely a
better outfit.
The training ground and stadium I
think is evidence, for everyone to
see and hopefully on the pitch as
well, we can do the business. So,
yeah, it excited me last night what
we showed on the pitch – really
well organised and some exciting
prospects for the future.
NK: How much does it mean to
you having fans back for the first
time in over a year?
GA: The first question they (the
reporters) asked me was “What
a great result” and I said, “Forget
the result, look at the fans being
back, hearing the sound of the
cheers and that’s probably about
16 months of iFollow coming out
in frustration over 90 minutes.”
It was brilliant to see them all
back – familiar faces, new faces...
we’ve got this group now that I
haven’t seen before coming up
with shirts on, teenagers, which
you’re thinking ‘is this is now the
start of of a new generation of
Wycombe fans coming through?’. I
think there’s a great feeling around
the town, not just the Club but the
town as well. I used to walk round
the town when I first signed here
and nobody knew who I was, and
now I can’t NOT get stopped ten
times in Wycombe if I walk round.
I’m not saying it’s not great, I love
that, don’t get me wrong, but it’s
great for the football club that
people are actually taking notice
now and we’re finally on the map
and I’m just not allowed to call this
club a little club any more. We are
this big club in League One and we
want to be a contender.
