Anybody who rides or races dirtbikes will at one point
probably twist a knee or worse still give it a bit of a
smash
It’s just the nature of the sport and the forces it exerts
on your body and this is the same with all sorts of extreme
sports … That is why they are called “Extreme”.
We have had a regular advertiser in the form of CTi knee
braces from Ossur down in the Cape who sent us some
interesting info on what their product is all about.
Since 1983, CTi knee braces have been tested and
trusted by professional extreme sports athletes around
the world and in particular dirt bike riders. Riding a dirt
bike exerts high levels of forces on the knee and puts
massive physical demands on equipment. The construction
of the CTi makes it ideal for these kinds of
sports.
The MX kit, which includes a Patella Cup, Gear Guards
and Undersleeve, are normally selected to provide additional
protection.
CTi braces provide a combination of stabilisation
and protection of the knee joint. This custom-made
brace uses Accutrac® hinges with extension stops to
glide with the knee and breathable liners coated with
bio-inert Össur® Sensil® Silicone to reduce migration
and skin irritation. Reversible field-serviceable buckles
and trimmable straps facilitate fast adjustments and
customised fit. CTi custom braces are available in 2
models, standard and Pro Sport and can be further
customised with a variety of options, colours, designs
and/or accessories.
The CTi Custom is available as two different models,
namely the CTi Standard for Medium to High Impact
and contact athletics such as skiing or wakeboarding
and the CTi ProSport for Large Impact Athletes competing
in contact sports for example, motocross and
is available in 12 standard matte or gloss colours. For
those that want a more custom look, custom paint is
available for an additional charge. Fees vary dependant
on the complexity of the design.
So what goes into making a truly custom ligament
brace?
It’s important to remember that a truly custom brace
should fit like a glove mimicking the contours of the leg
and movements of the knee perfectly. Achieving this
level of truly custom fit requires a unique combination
of state-of-the-art technology and materials with hand
finishing to fine tune for an exceptionally individual and
personalised brace.
