Our Non-Examined
Curriculum
Beyond our academic
“You need to know about
curriculum, we dedicate five
hours a week to learning
beyond formal, examined
the news, because if we’re
content to ensure our students
going to change the
are well-rounded, informed
and able to draw their own
world, we need to know
conclusions about issues which
about it!”
affect us all.
We look at the news daily and
- Year 8 student
debate in our tutor groups. We
study the issues affecting young people in today's world, as well as looking
back through history to ensure we know about the important figures and
stories which aren't studied in most schools. Our PSHCE curriculum goes well
beyond the statutory requirements to ensure our young people are able to
develop into responsible, respectful and active citizens.
Courageous advocacy forms a key part of our
taught curriculum. Students have studied key
local issues and used these to develop their own
campaigning ideas, such as writing to local MPs
regarding the issue of homelessness, as well as
being contributing positively to people’s lives such
as by writing to residents of care homes during the
COVID-19 pandemic.
