Use of a Selective Voltmeter and Stepped Attenuator
This example demonstrates what would be the ‘almost ideal’ measuring setup. Not all
shacks are fortunate to include a Precision Selective Voltmeter!
• Point the Antennae at the cold noise source.
• Set the precision attenuator to a value such that you may add additional
attenuation as expected by the increase of Sun noise.
• Calibrate the precision selective voltmeter.
• Point antennae at the Sun.
• Increase the attenuation to obtain the calibrate level as set earlier.
• the amount of added attenuation is the Y-Factor
