Catherine Todero, Ph.D., director of San Diego
State University’s School of Nursing, is one of six
new members named to the California Board of
Registered Nursing. Todero was sworn in by Governor
Arnold Schwarzenegger on Wednesday, July
15.
“Dr. Todero is an excellent nurse educator whose
decades of knowledge and expertise will no doubt
serve the state of California well,” said Marilyn
Newhoff, dean of SDSU’s College of Health and
Human Services.

New Responsibilities
Todero will serve a four-year term as the education
representative on the board of seven, which meets
several times a year in Sacramento.
Good for San Diego
“It is a great personal honor to be selected for the
board, but it is also a very good thing for San
Diego,” said Todero, also a registered nurse.
“It is important to have our region represented at
the state level because some of the issues we deal
with here in San Diego might be slightly different
than those in northern California.”
About the California Board of Registered Nursing
The California Board of Registered Nursing is a
state governmental agency established by law to
protect the public by regulating the practice of registered
nurses. The board is responsible for implementation
and enforcement of the Nursing Practice
Act: the laws related to nursing education, licensure,
practice, and discipline. San Diego State University’s
School of Nursing programs for licensure
are approved by the California Board of Registered
Nursing.
