Hiker evacuated from
West Coast Trail
A hiker was airlifted to
hospital from the West
Coast Trail July 3 by members
of 442 Transport and
Rescue Squadron.
Parks Canada requested
assistance in the evacuation
of the hiker from the
mouth of Walbran Creek,
after rough water and cold
weather on the ocean prevented
evacuation by boat.
Members of Parks Canada
stabilized the patient until
the helicopter’s arrival.
Search and Rescue
Technicians loaded the
patient onto the waiting
Calgary Stampede
Sailors from HMCS
Calgary are donning their
Stetsons at the Calgary
Stampede, taking place July
5 to 15. Calgary sailors will
participate in the 10-day
event as part of an annual
namesake city visit, joined
by crew from the submarine
HMCS Chicoutimi and the
Naden Band of Maritime
Forces Pacific.
This year marks the 100th
Anniversary of the “Greatest
Outdoor Show on Earth”,
and officially kicks off when
the Naden Band leads sailors
in the Stampede Parade. On
the Stampede grounds, the
Navy contingent joins members
from the Canadian
Army and Royal Canadian
Air Force at the Canadian
Forces display. This year
features Calgary’s Naval
Boarding Party and a Mark
48 torpedo displayed by
Chicoutimi’s submariners.
