Found within the city of Gloucester is an internationally important<br />

collection of treasures of over 750,000 objects…<br />

The Museum of Gloucester is the most unique cultural and family destination<br />

in the city, telling the story of the city’s origins as a Roman settlement and its<br />

subsequent development through the Dark Ages and Medieval period.<br />

The Victorian building houses a significant collection of art including paintings<br />

by Richard Wilson, Thomas Gainsborough and the archaeology collection<br />

includes the world-famous Birdlip Mirror and the Gloucester Tables Set; the<br />

oldest complete backgammon set in the world. Highlights also include a<br />

Roman kitchen and Medieval street, plus part of the original Roman wall.<br />

<strong>Explore</strong> changing exhibitions throughout the year and a varied programme<br />

of events, workshops, tours, clubs and talks. A selection of educational<br />

sessions, outreach and loan boxes are available plus an exciting gift shop full<br />

of both historical and local products, and not forgetting the café!<br />

Admission to the Museum is free, but donations make a huge difference in<br />

helping to preserve the historical sites and collections for generations to come...
