Good News Partners 2011 Annual Report Women Everywhere: Service project partners collaborate at GNP’s annual work day. Our super-hero volunteer, Tom Alrich Julie Bonnette has a photo taken with neighborhood kids to promote her Chicago Marathon Run to support GNP. The best part for the kids: seeing themselves in the photos. …AND OUR SUPPORT PARTNERS Throughout this past year, we have explored deeper meanings of “partnership” with our supporters. We have developed more written materials describing how individuals and groups can partner with us. Our staff is consulting with outside groups to strengthen the available opportunities for hundreds of volunteers. We have also stressed to our supporters that creating the optimal and most satisfying volunteer experience is not our objective. Rather, volunteer experience with Good News Partners is designed to open doors into the North of Howard neighborhood, and carve a pathway toward relationships. Housing is our strategy; nurturing relationships is our goal. Volunteering provides entrance. Repeated entrance offers familiarity with individuals. Familiarity can lead to friendship. Friendship leads to commitment. Commitment seeks ways to share with one another. Sharing reveals mutual need. Mutual need leads to reconciliation. 10 Thirty-Fifth Anniversary Issue In addition to regular financial contributions, supporters bring their own special skills, resources, and contacts to connect with opportunities in the neighborhood they discover. This may mean supporting a family in reaching their goals, providing enrichment activities for children and adults, offering specialized professional skills or services, or investing in property or businesses in the neighborhood. The possibilities are endless and the opportunities wide open. A new opportunity for mutual benefit exists now for individuals and congregations to make short or longterm loans to Good News Partners at competitive rates to earnings in the stock market and higher rates than bank deposits. We are adjusting our financial strategies towards paying down our outstanding building mortgages, freeing up resources for much needed community development.
