Bay Path Nursing students offers
screening assistance
DUDLEY – A group of
6 grateful Bay Path Practical
Nursing students volunteered
for a two-day vision and hearing
screening to assist the school
nurses at the Shepherd Hill Regional
High School in screening
222 grade 10 students. The
team led by Dr. Adelina Healy
of Dudley includes Regina
Asieduwaah, Moreen Barber,
Francis Sozaa, all of Worcester,
Maryanne Cann of Danielson,
CT, Darcey Howe of Palmer,
and Gearlyn Wetherbee of
Charlton.

Dudley Grows Together
The Dudley Agricultural
Commission will be hosting the
first annual “Dudley Grows
Together” Plant Hop on Saturday,
May 14th from 9am -
2pm. This is an opportunity
for the community to purchase
seedlings and plants while supporting
local farms and organizations.
Participants include
Walnut Lane Farm, Local 4
Life, Armstrong Acres, the
Dudley Grange, the Dudley
Conservation Land Trust, the
Black Tavern, Farmer Tim’s,
and the Leo Family Homestead.
Plants of all kinds will be
available: vegetable seedlings,
annuals, perennials, herbs,
natives, pollinator attractors,
and even compost to fertilize!

“the Practical Nursing students
did a great job with vision and
hearing testing, their interaction
with the 10th grade students are
wonderful.”
The experience at the Vision
and Hearing Screening gives the
nursing students the opportunity
to work hand in hand with the
school nurses. “This is the first
year that our Practical Nursing
students volunteered with the
Shepherd Hill Regional High
School for the Vision and Hearing
Screening. Bay Path Practical
Nursing Academy prides
itself in being a part of the Bay
Path community outside of the
Charlton campus so having the
practical nursing students assist
“The Agricultural Commission
is charged with encouraging
and supporting agriculture
in Dudley. We are excited to
host this event bringing together
our farmers, local organizations,
and our residents
at a time when interest in
gardening and local food has
sky-rocketed.” said Lanette
Lepper, member of the Agricultural
Commission.
The event will be held rain

assist the healthcare team,
assess, give out COVD-19
vaccines, monitor for untoward
reactions, and complete tasks
efficiently. The training for the
future nursing workforce in the
Bay Path community and across
the region allows practical nursing
students to respond to emergencies
and assist in community
events.

A new beginning for an old goat
With the attainment of a
certain “seniority” comes appreciation
for opportunities
that present themselves when
they are least expected.
The chance to take on challenges
and responsibilities that
would seem to have been available
only to a younger version
of oneself invokes a feeling of
gratitude that is hard to describe.
In the figurative sense it
is like turning the clock back.
For me, a career that began
in my hometown area of
Binghamton, New York in the
summer of 1965 marches on,
as I transition from “freelance
writer” to “editor” of The
Yankee Xpress and the Blackstone
Valley Xpress (North
and South) for The Newspaper
Press LLC.
Over the years, I have
worked for a number of companies,
including Citizen
Group Publications in Brookline
(the job that brought me
to Massachusetts, in 1985)
and the Telegram & Gazette
in Worcester (1998-2009).
The privilege of being able to
do what I like best—write—
has been complemented by
a chance to forge friendships
with people in the Blackstone
Valley and Central Massachusetts
who represent,
literally, all walks of
life.
Those of us in
journalism understand
that the most
rewarding aspect of
our work is having
“front-row” access
to press conferences,
grand openings,
ribbon cuttings,
business milestones,
major news announcements—and
local, regional and national celebrities
(I have met my share,
including Hall of Fame Golfer
Gary Player, whom I interviewed
in the clubhouse at the
B.C. Open in Endicott, New
York, in 1974).
