assure that process controls are effective <strong>and</strong> that out-of-tolerance conditions are rapidly corrected. Records,<br />

including reports of the test results, must be maintained at the phosphate application site <strong>and</strong> must be made<br />

available upon request of the acquisition activity (see 3.5.3 <strong>and</strong> 4.2.6.1).<br />

6.15 Problem alloys. Alloys such as AISI 4340 or SAE 4340 may be difficult to process. It is important<br />

that the contractor consult with the processing chemicals supplier to work out a procedure that will achieve<br />

the desired phosphatized coating with respect to coverage <strong>and</strong> coating weight.<br />

6.15.1 Type I, spray systems. Stopping of the conveyor line while parts are being processed is<br />

unacceptable. Parts subjected to a line stoppage must be reworked should they fail to meet visual<br />

acceptance criteria.<br />
