WELCOME TO KEENELAND Welcome to the Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland Keeneland is honored to welcome the Breeders’ Cup World Championships home to the Bluegrass for the third time, following a successful debut here in 2015 and an unprecedented running in 2020. The missions of Keeneland and Breeders’ Cup are uniquely connected as we both are committed to the Thoroughbred, to the equine industry and to ensuring our fans have a world-class experience while watching the best of Thoroughbred racing. Central Kentucky and Keeneland have deep ties to the Breeders’ Cup. Our region is world-famous as the epicenter of Thoroughbred breeding, and many of this year’s contenders were born, bred and raised at farms within 50 miles of Keeneland. In addition, a number of horses competing in this year’s Breeders’ Cup were sold at Keeneland and have raced here, including during our recent Fall Meet. Representing Keeneland’s global marketplace for Thoroughbreds are 123 graduates of Keeneland sales who have won 132 Breeders’ Cup races. Additional Breeders’ Cup winners sold at Keeneland after their victories in the prestigious event. People love Keeneland for its timeless beauty and for the exceptional experience they enjoy here. WELCOME TO BREEDERS’ CUP Welcome to the 2022 Breeders’ Cup World Championships There is no better feeling than being able to welcome our fans, guests and racing participants to the 2022 Breeders’ Cup World Championships, as we make good on our commitment to return to Lexington and to the magnificent Keeneland Race Course after running at Keeneland without fans in 2020. The last year has been one of excitement and transformation for our sport, delivering incredible races and momentous victories from the best horses in the world, and ushering in a new era of safety and integrity in Thoroughbred racing with the implementation of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act. It is with a renewed sense of optimism about racing’s bright future that we welcome you all to the Horse Capital of the World to watch the best horses and jockeys in the world compete on our sport’s biggest stage. This year’s exciting Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series saw 75 individual winners across 11 countries gain entry to 14 World Championships races. With more than $31 million available in purse money and awards, racing will commence this weekend with Future Stars Friday, comprising five World Championships races featuring twoyear-old horses who will become racing’s stars of tomorrow. On Saturday, nine World Championships races feature a vast array of international talent as the best from around the world compete on turf and dirt, culminating in the crowning of our 2022 Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic Champion. It takes dedicated, year-round, hard work by so many people to make the World Championships successful. I am so grateful for our team at Breeders’ Cup and the support of our Board and Members, who all work tirelessly to provide a high-quality experience year after year. I also want to thank our wonderful partners at Keeneland and throughout the Lexington community, without whom none of this would be possible. And to our breeders and nominators, thank you for your commitment to Thoroughbred racing and continuing efforts to help our industry succeed. Your care of, and commitment to, your beloved horses is cause for celebration and allows us to preserve the original Breeders’ Cup vision for a prestigious, international, year-end competition.
